Thorn was born in a cottage at the edge of a vast forest, along with his twin sister, Rose. Thorn and his sister lived peacefully with their parents, using the forest as a playground. Often chasing rabbits and deer, pretending to be a wolf pack.
Upon their 10th winter, their peaceful life was shattered. A group of ruffians from a nearby village attacked their home. Shouting out racial slurs and setting fire to their home. Their father was set upon just as he was escaping the inferno and died painfully. Their mother rushed out of the house with her children held protectively under her arms. Rose was snatched away by one of the ruffians, while Thorn was knocked unconscious with a heavy blow.
The remaining men then descended on their mother and proceeded to rape and finally kill her while Rose was forced to watch. Thorn remained unconscious for a couple of hours. When he came to, he found himself tied and gagged in back of a wagon, with his sister rocking back and forth in a corner.
Several hours passed until they finally pulled into a big city and taken to the slave trading square. There they were auctioned off. Rose was bought by a colorfully glad women and Thorn was bought by a black clad women with a scar on her face. Later he learned the woman was a high ranking member in the city’s thieves’ guild.
For several years he received training, starting out doing small jobs like pick pocketing. Eventually doing jobs like burglary and extortion.
On his 20th winter, he was order to contact some hobgoblins outside of the city and negotiate a weapons deal with them. Things went sour and the meeting was attacked by the city’s law enforcers, being led by a young lieutenant shifter, which turned out to be Rose.
Thorn managed to escape the botched meeting, torn inside. On one hand he was glad to see his sister was alright, but saddened that she was on the other side.
Rose managed to get in contact with Thorn and they met in a neutral place. Rose begged for Thorn to give up his life of crime and she could get leniency for him if he promised to become a law abiding citizen.
Unfortunately Thorn could not change his life that easily and left the meeting with his sister, unresolved. Rose now makes it her mission to capture Thorn and ‘rehabilitate’ him. Thorn doesn’t want to be in conflict with his sister and avoids her at all cost. It has become a cat and mouse game.
