Markus Blackletter, born at an unrecorded time and date on the planet Dusk has lived a short but very eventful life. His father, Callidon, was a local of Dusk, born into what passes as the planets PDF. His mother, known only as Trix, was an Assassin working for another team of Inqisitorial Acolytes. During some now forgotten assignment on Dusk, Trix was wounded and left for dead by her team. Callidon came accross her while tracking a comrade in arms who had given in to a sudden madness. Abandong his prey he took Trix to his home and personally nurtured her back too health. In time the two grew a deep affection and eventual romance which brought about Markus and his two siblings.
Markus was a young man out on the hunt when the already thin barrier seperating Dusk from the Warp broke for only a fraction of a second, more then enough time for the Daemon Azraekal to manifest himself on Dusk. Meanwhile the "Renagade Saint" Ephrael Sturnn on landed on DUsk with a handpicked team of her finest men for reasons unknown. Within minutes the Daemon and the Saint stumbled upon eachother and battle was joined. And within minutes Ephrael Sturnns team was wiped out and she was forced to flea for her life. Markus had arrived in time too see only a woman being pursued by a man, and in a naive act of heroism fell upon the attacker with his axe. The Daemon, who had possessed the corpse of one of Sturnns fallen men was surprised and retreated, thinking it had been caught in an ambush and was at serious risk of destruction.
One could only imagine the Daemon humiliation, when it discovered it had been chased off by a single boy. Markus took the Saint back to his village were she was given a hero's welcome. On her departure from Dusk, Saint Sturnn gave Markus three gifts. First was a rahter large breaded length of her white hair to signify he was a friend of the Saint. Second she placed her personal blessing upon Markus axe, so that the eye of the Emperor may always be drawn to him in battle. And the third was her personal promis to return to Dusk soon and take him away so that he may serve her and the Emperor. Unfortunalty, the Saint was never able to keep her promise to her young friend.
An Imperial Guard regiment came to Dusk within days of Saint Sturnns departure and recruited a very large portion of the planets population for the Tranch war. This included Markus and his siblings Stranga and Finial. Over the next year the three children saw the horrors of war and the callousness of the Imperium as whole platoons were sacrificed for victory. During the finale push to retake a nearly decimated city, both Stranga and Finial were killed. In a fury, Markus lead the charge that brought victory and destroyed the enemy force entirely. Markus was given a commendation medal and told that the Emperor was pleased, but it was a cold comfort to him.
In the dead of night, one week after the battle, Markus was approached by a mysterious man bearing the seal of the Inquisiton. Markus was told that he could serve the emperor and Saint Sturnn another way. A way that ensured both would be pleased. Markus did not need time to think. He took the strangers hand and was brought into the Inquisition.
