Sir Honorius,
Sir Reginald Finley
Danzig

The smell of blood and spent magic still hangs heavy in the air. Rota and the rest of the chosen hunters watch Sigmae and Luther lead the rest of the Fellowship out of the clearing. Harbard is stretching and wincing some from his wounds. Rota can see the frostbite is not all the Ice-Dragon gave him. There is a long, foul looking weal running down his neck and into his shirt. Captain Heath and Visk are conferring with Gefion the Gray. Heath is holding a piece of the dead wizard's cheek and Gefion has the rest of the skull. They look like they are working on putting it back together and Rota guesses Gefion may attempt to speak with it's dead spirit.
Vasa is off to the side of them, gazing at the sky in that odd way of his. One of the nandor who came with Harbard stands quietly next to him, looking around, his eyes wary and anxious. Rota would know the Nandor are a long way from home. She's never heard of them traveling this far south before. Then again she had never heard of the Hand either, never thought such evil was possible....she finds herself thinking back, remembering Ravanna's stricken face, twisted and ugly from the Hand's curse. She remembers the feel of her blade sliding into her friends flesh...She shakes her head, clearing the thoughts. Honorius has walked up to her, a concerned look on his face, or is it concern?

You should avoid getting injured until that weal heals. It doesn't look right. Rota advises Harbard.

Rota nods in a pleased fashion at the two that have bits and pieces of the dead priest. Yes, talking to his spirit would be good.

Speak freely Sir Honorius. You are obviously concerned.

Harbard turns and looks at Rota, his dark eye flat and unmoving, his blue eye sparkling like a winter star. He smiles at her, his way of saying thanks and stretches his arm, testing it's wounded strength,As ever you speak the truth good Rota. The Norns have not shown me much kindness of late. Harbard winks at her and turns to the two Nandor, speaking quietly to them before sitting down and allowing them to peel off his armor and inspect and clean the wound. Rota can tell Harbard is not happy about this, but does it because she asked.
Fair Rota,...how do you think we should best attack Goasme?Honorius speaks in low, rough voice that she remembers isn't normal for him. There is an odd look in his eye she can't quite make out, but it's not concern for her. She can see he holds a long, slender knife blade against his forearm which he sheaths almost as soon as she sees it.
She hears two sets of chanting voices, Gefion's calling on the spirit of the dead mage and one of the Nandor, singing a healing spell for Harbard's shoulder. Rota remembers her friend Ravanna telling her about how the elves sing spells of incredible beauty and power, and now Rota can see one for the first time.

OOC-Gefion has called the mage's spirit, allowing the party to ask it eight yes or no questions.

Rota watches the elf spell, captivated in an effort to understand the different magic.

She answers Honorius, I am a simple thinker. When we have rested and healed, we track him and attack. She stares hard into his eyes, Are you unwell? Try to fight it. Is he a doppelganger or Honorius? Is he perhaps enchanted? Could the Hand be bothering this party even as the distance grows between her and her old charge? There was much confusion in the fighting with people moving in and out of the large magic circle of protection cast by Brimora.

The questions:
Does Goasme have a lair nearby? (If so, where, what traps are laid)
Does Goasme have a weakness? (spell, time of day, fondess for collecting mushrooms, etc)

Watching and listening to the elf, Rota doesn't pay enough attention to Sir Honorius to discern anything other than he is visibly more shaken from the battle than any of the others. He stumble over his words and won't look her in the face, possibly ashamed, I don't feel so well. I'm not used to battling such strangeness, such evil. It's common for the Judicators I think, they specialize in these sort of things. I'm used to dealing with a more human evil...not...not this. Give me a few moments and I'll be well. He walks away from her and sits on log, drawing his blade and wetstone.
Rota resumes listening to the Nandor's song and picks up the rhythym and the words. It's a simple rhythym full of power and Rota catches herself joining the chant, mimicking the words and feeling the spell move through her.
The whole party convenes later on to discuss what they've learned about Goasme:
1. He has no lair nearby, not even a camp.
2. He is using a rare spell called Astral Jump to evade
and attack them.
3. Currently he has four mages, two sorcerors, one troll
one ogre-magi, and a frost giant shaman in his party.
4. His strongest spells and abilities lie in elemental
powers and knowledge.
5. Goasme is immune to lightning, fire, cold, and wind.
6. Enchanted and iron forged edged weapons only do half
damage to him. Blunt weapons like hammers and maces hit
for full damage.
7. He hates priest's of Thor, priests of Anu, and dragon
Turtles. Dragon Turtles can breath steaming salt
water, like a dragon breaths fire.
8. Saltwater is his major weakness, it burns him like holy
water burns undead.
9. He has made several pacts with elemental lords to gain
power. He has to regularly sacrifice to them to keep
those powers.

How might I parlay with the elemental lords that give Goasme his power? Rota asks anyone in the party familiar with elemental magics. If there is anyone.

Is there anyway to track him in another plane? I assume he is going back and forth through the Astral Plane. Rota hasn't ever plane traveled, though other Valkryies are well versed in it. Rota is much more of an earthly creature than anyone might ever suspect.

She smiles to hear that his weakness is saltwater. Good.

If tracking him in the Astral Plane is not possible, fine. We will track our own friends and attack them when they next appear to strike at the Hand's carrier.

Gefion and Vasa both have some knowldege of Elementals. Gefion has never contacted one and doesn't know the particulars necessary for doing something like that safely. Vasa doesn't say anything, remaining quiet for the next hour while the others prepare to move out. Harbard has located an enemy camp close to three miles away. The Frost giant, ogre-magi, three of the mages and the troll are all there, camped beneath the branches of a huge oak.
Harbard and Captain Heath are discussing loosing the pegasi and allowing them to return to Riga. Harbard would rather trade stealth and for speed. And, he points out quite wisely, most of the party doesn't know how to ride flying mounts, let alone fight from them. Harbard thinks the pegasi stand out and make them easier to track. Captain Heath, who can ride pegasi, thinks their speed and flight advantage shouldn't be passed up. The two nandor stand close to Harbard, saying nothing.
Just before they are about to leave for the enemies camp, Vasa walks up to Rota, I can show you how to contact and speak with one of the elemental lords. They won't act out of a sense of honor or morality. If you take Goasme's sacrifice from them, they're going to want an equally valuable tribute in return.

Rota doesn't want to waste any time contacting the elemental lords when they have an opportunity to strike at the camp.

Mages die quickly. Frost giants and trolls take time to kill. I don't want to be caught up hacking and hacking at a troll with a mage skulking around.

I want two of us focused on each mage, others cover them and watch out for Goasme or traps. We hit those three mages with everything we've got and take them out. Immediately. Then we turn on the other foes. Two on the Frost Giant, two on the ogre-magi, two on the troll. If you have no assignment you assist as needed with whichever is causing trouble.

Rota doesn't care about keeping anything alive to lead her to Goasme. That's always been too tricky. Anyway. There's going to the elemental lords directly for that.

We will keep Pegasi for those that can ride them and let the rest return to Riga?

Rota recieves a sending from Master Reinikka.

Honorius killed Huber. If he was under any influence is unknown. Though if he was why didn’t he admit it? still may be or Traitor.

Rota and her companions are looking at the foe's camp when she receives Reinikk'as message. Harbard and Visk have set up lines of fire and each has chosen a mage to fire on first. She watched Captain Heath and Danzig expertly slink to the other side of the enemy's campfire. She can't see them, but knows both are in a position to strike once the attack begans. Vasa Moonshadow, Gefion the Gray and Sir Reginald Finley kneel in the brush behind her. Sir Honorius stands beside her, weapons out and ready. Reinikka's message is urgent. Honorius looks fine to Rota, his eyes watching their enemies as he waits for the signal to step into Gefion's dimension door that will land them on top of their foes once the archers let loose.

Rota thinks Honorius looks fine at the moment, but recalls the low, rough voice he used earlier. She thinks it prudent to keep an eye on him.

She quickly casts Protection against Evil, Divine Favor upon herself. Let's go, she says to Gefion.

Rota chooses the mage farthest from Heath and Danzig, and the where she will least be in the way of Harbard and Visk's arrows.

Rota watches them all, trying to judge their abilities and battle sense for future reference. She watches Visk. He is blindingly fast. He shoots three arrows before she realizes it. All of them enchanted. Harbard is slower, more relaxed in his shooting. His first arrow is rather plain and ordinary, his second rune carved and silver. Unlike Visk, he fires then watches before pulling a third arrow. Visk has now shot five enchanted arrows at his mage, none of them hitting. All five burned into blue smoke when they got within five feet of the mage. Harbard's first arrow hit the second mage in the throat, his second arrow burst into blue flame, the same as Visk's. Harbard's third, fourth and fifth arrows are all plain, expertly crafted, and all hit vital spots on the mage. Rota sees him fall without casting a single spell. The first mage, the one Visk shot at, has stood up, raised his staff and was trying to cast when Heath leaps at him from behind and cleaves deeply into his shoulder, slicing through the collarbone and into a lung. That mage turns, vomits and falls all at once. He is not dead, but he is dying and Heath looks ready to deliver the killing blow.
Gefion's magical door opens, they step through and arrive in the midst of raging foes! Rota's target, the third, unscathed mage, holds a red wand with a demon's head atop it. He is not surprised at their attack. Rota is certain that he, and the frost giant expected such a thing. Even so, the speed of it has caught him offguard. Rota moves to attack, feels spells of protection and divination around the mage. He is turning towards her, raising his wand before him. She feels power churning and gathering behind it.....

Rota slides her black helm upon her head - covering her forehead, the sides of her face almost to her eyes and nose and her neck. Her magical armor is heavily fortified, leaving nothing vulnerable to a single killing blow exposed. Her white hair that flows from its edge is lit up by the moonlight so that the contrast is stark. Though the helm is dark, there is no question for ally and enemy alike that this armored warrior is Rota Regenliefd.

Rota draws her most precious spear and leaps through the magical door as soon as Gefion opens it - she goes first. She finds her target. She meets his eye, not surprised at his expecting them and charges him. It will be good to use the spear.

OOC: Rota can only attack once since she probably had to move more than 5 feet, next round she can use full attack, unless the mage is smart and runs away. If he does move more than 5 feet away, Rota can give him an attack of opportunity just the same. If he tries to cast a spell without moving away, she can give him an attack of opportunity...according to the rules. But, he can take a step out of her reach and then cast a spell. Just FYI (thought about how to do it for Jamie)

Rota leaps through the door, focused solely on the mage. The two of them lock eyes and the mage tries to sidestep her charge and touch her with his wand when she passes him by. He doesn't have a chance. He hasn't even lifted his foot when Rota drives her spear through his chest. He did shift just enough to avoid getting his heart split in two. Still, Rota's spear slices through one of his lungs and out his back. She can lift him up if she wanted. She doubts he weighs more than 140lbs. His wand did hit her, loosing a Vampiric touch spell. Rota feels the necromancy wash over her and fade away against her divine resistance. The mage coughs and frothy pink blood erupts from his mouth. She can see him trying to push out the pain of that terrible wound, sees him drop the wand trying to regain focus and failing for the moment.
Rota hears the sound of battle all around her. The troll in particular is making rather horrid gnashing sounds trying to bite through Sir Reginald's heavy plate. She feels and hears an explosion caused by the one mage they haven't wounded yet, the one Visk first shot at. She also hears the Frost Giant roaring in the frenzy of battle and she realizes he is close to going beserk.

OOC-Rota is unscathed this round, next round
Secure Rolls:

Rota laughs at the sound of the beserker Giant and tells the mage, Call for Goasme and I will let you live.

She pulls the mage to the side, spinning as it were, so that she can see the Frost Giant. Are any of her allies around him? If so, she refocuses on the mage stuck on her spear to hear his answer. If the area around the Frost Giant is clear, she will hit it with a Flame Strike and then refocus on the mage. The mage must be in terrible pain, I hunt Goasme. I don't care about you. I will remove my spear when I see Goasme, I will heal you when Goasme is dead.

Rota swivels and laughs, holding the mangled mage between her and the swearing giant. She can see Sir Reginald kneeling, his shield up to protect him. He is bleeding heavily from his head and his sword arm is broken. Sir Honorius is fifteen feet away, struggling to get up after getting knocked down by the giant. She can smell fire and burning troll nearby, hears Visk cursing followed by a lightning bolt from the other mage, who is out of her sight. She can see her laughter has attracted the giant's attention.
The mage stops wriggling on her spear, for a moment becoming still as ice. His mouth gapes open, he starts to speak, Goasme is on the Vilyet, near....then his face twists in horror. He cries out, then his face starts melting like a candle too close to a fire. He screams, a high pitched wail that strangles into a hoarse whisper as his throat melts. Rota feels him becoming weightless on her spear. His flesh sloughing off, his feet, legs, and arms look about to fall away.
Odin's whore! make way for death! The giant faces her, laughing and swearing, his great muscles bunching like boulders, his timbered forearms bringing the axe back in preparation to swing at Rota.

OOC-Rota can attack the giant and protect the mage, or she can try and avoid the giant and save the mage, or something else. Gloves of dexterity give her a number of options.

Rota angles her spear and shakes the melting mage off the tip. It's impossible at the moment to figure out what's wrong with him, but she supposes it is something that Goasme has done as a contingency upon those who work with him. Betrayal triggers it.

Rota crouches in preparation for the Giant's attack. She waits for him to come to her so she might make a full attack. He swings, she tries to avoid the blow or take it on the strongest part of her armor if she can't avoid the ax blow, then she closes in a step and attacks.

OOC-Unfortunately Rota has too poor a wisdom to figure out what's happening with the melting mage.

IC-Rota barely avoids the giants first blow. Ducking, she feels the axe whip past her, feels the blade cut some of her hair. She's inside the guard and close quickly, stabbing and stabbing and slashing through the giant's heavy furs and drawing gouts of blood each time her spear rips into the giant's hard muscled flesh. He steps back, not in shock or pain, but to gain room to bring his great axe back into play. Rota hears his axe cutting through the air, grits her teeth, readying for the blow knowing she can't get out of the way in time. Just before it hits, Rota dips her shoulder to one side in an attempt to avoid most of the blow's force. A loud cracking sound fills her ears, followed by a heavy force that almost knocks her to the ground. She had forgotten how strong these giants could be. She still stands before him, bleeding and sore shouldered. He grins down at her, wary and respecful of her skill and madly happy to fight a Valkry.

OOC-Rota took 22 points of damage, next round

Rota dances up to the giant, attacks with her spear twice, and then leaps back out of his reach, but not before delivering once last touch with her left hand to deliver a Shocking Grasp. She leaps toward allies who might help her, or away from Sir Reginald if he is still out of the fight. Sir Honorius, heal Sir Reginald, she calls out to them both. She would welcome them back into the fight. She may not be the wisest of women, but she isn't an imbecile.

Rota and Bjorn once killed a frost giant and then shortly afterwards inside it's ice cave lair they killed a giant ice worm. She hadn't even felt on blow from either creature. They had both focused all their attention upon Bjorn, who was clearly the bigger threat. Bjorn had even been swallowed by the worm, but was alive inside and cutting his way out and while Rota delivered a killing blow. She then helped her husband get out of the belly of the beast. Inside the belly of the ice worm, they had found a mostly digested priest of Odin and recovered a magic spear, which Rota claimed and still has in her possession today. Rota is also satisfied that she will fight the Jotun. She is wary and respectful as well, but not quite madly happy. Just satisfied.

She slides her large metal shield off her back, a magical gift from Luther on the day he gave away everything he owned, and prepares her defense.

She also yells, Harbard! when the Frost Giant advances.
