Elberich staggers under the magical invasion, shocked by the surprise assault. He attempts to fight back and help Razzul ward off the attack, keeping them from observing inside the rundown shack, but it's so difficult. The wizard frantically analyzes the magic involved as well as the power behind it, looking to break the coordinated attack if he possibly can. Though she's backed by the other mages, surely her unnatural power marks her as a fiend of some sort.

Captain Silas of the Howler's expression changes from bitterness at the poor and deceptive treatment of the Sea Griffons to amusement, and finally to simmering anger. Nulfi, I think you are under a false impression about me and the Howlers. We fight for gold, for loot, for women, even for our own pride in rare instances. We never fight for monsters though, human or otherwise. It's why we've stayed out of Nijmegin. We are also not crusaders or Knights of courtly romance. This idea of doing 'what's right, because it's the right thing to do' is mostly lost on me. What business of ours is your poor plight or the 'morals' of those in Koln? I do understand the need to kill someone before they kill me. I do appreciate your advise and insight. We will most certainly compensate you for that. And, I promise, I'll give some serious thought to your offer and suggestions of profitability in Nijmegin. Thanks for you time Nulfi. Feel free to grab a bite to eat on your way out. Silas stands up and stretches. He then motions to Dulga, who leaves with Nulfi and the other Griffons. Once they appear out of earshot, Esni/DAmal sidles up and whispers to him, They know you are cursed. Silas doesn't trust you. He thinks you are under someone else's influence and leading them into a trap. Nulfi knows that's true, he can smell two invisible half-elves following them. One male, one female, the female is ripe, he can smell her time on her and he feel a tightness and hunger growing in him. He starts sweating with need and absently bites his lip, drawing blood. They can see strange lights and lots of troop movement down by Jurada's Tent. Nulfi can tell something's going on. His gnoll senses tell him magic is in play in force. The fear and blood in the air only quicken's his urges. ------ Taylon feels a bit discombobulated. He can tell sorcery is in the air but can't make heads or tails of it. Maybe it's the succubus' power, her beauty or a combination of both that have his senses reeling. He believes he should know what's happening and how to combat it. Yet nothing is coming to mind. The woman/succubi he can now see in her true form. Her wings curling protectively around Critias' body as she hugs him close to her, protecting herself more than him. Taylon can tell Crit's gone, not just charmed or deluded, but gone. Somehow they've taken his soul and something vile and repugnant now inhabits his body. Bregwulf is still with him, but Armod and the others have fallen under some kind of influence, following Crit's lead, they start eating and drinking, which only furthers their fall. Taylon can see the succubi, one drow, and one thin boned, female mage with green skin, hair and eyes. She is dappled with tattoes and purple eye-shadow. He can sense others moving around the outside of the tent, and realizes all the Griffon's are under attack! ---------- The initial attack almost sends Elberich reeling. He focuss and regains his sense of self and realizes someone, just attempted to break his defense and magic jar him. He, Razzul and surpringsly enough Hector as well manage to throw off the initial attack. Swanhild joins them before the next attack comes and Elberich immediately feels the flame of her power rippling through him and they hold the foe off and get a better view of what's happening. Elberich can tell Critias is gone, someone has taken him, most likely another magic jar spell. Except for Taylon and Bregwulf, all the other Griffons in the tent have fallen under a powerful charm, most likely cast by the succubi wrapping herself around Critias.

(Wow, despite will saves basically being kryptonite for him, Nulfi makes it. And despite years of dealing with explosives, he makes a half decent listen check.)
Nulfi growls deep in his throat. OK, so everyone knows I'm doomed. So what? I know I'm not speaking clearly Dulga, but Silas has to understand: I don't give a rat's ass about the founders in Koln, beyond saying don't trust 'em. And I know one noble's pretty much the same as another. But fiends, Durga! Let me spell it out: no mortal in the history of the world ever controlled a fiend. They serve if they think it will further their goal, which is to peel this world like a ripe fruit and eat it. There are a lot of fiends about right now. I'm not talking about 'doing the right thing', I'm saying that anyone who works with fiends is trying to fucking kill you and everyone you know, and should be treated as such. I'm talking about survival. Make him understand, there are things you cannot ignore or walk away from, because there is no place left to go if you do. I'm a mercenary, I fight for gold. But what good is gold if there's nowhere left to spend it? You think I'm crazy? Fine. Open your damned eyes to what's around you and think for yourself. He's speaking as much for the invisible half elves to hear as he is for Dulga. The more people hear the truth, the more chance someone will believe it.
He wants to talk more, but can't make the words come. He's jumping out of his skin and the wrongness ahead raises his hackles. You smell that? Magic! Something's wrong. Griffons! TO ARMS! He runs towards the heart of the disturbance, desperate to find an enemy he can see and touch and kill. Secure Rolls: Will Save 1d20(19)+3 = 22 Spot 1d20(10)+12 = 22 Listen 1d20(18)-1 = 17

Elberich fights against the rising tide of panic as he watches the ambush claim the Griffons' leader, sickened at the sight of Crit in her obscene embrace. It's all falling apart. He takes a deep breath, steadying himself. Trusting that Taylon can continue resisting the demons for a little longer, Elberich will try to even the odds against him and Bregwulf.
"Hector, Raz, watch for counter attacks. Guard our guest!"
Through his scrying link, the wizard invokes a cloud of noxious fumes in Jurada's tent, covering the drow sorceress as well as many of the gathered knights and assassins. Almost as an afterthought, Elberich also causes a smaller cloud of sparkling particles to fall over the pair of blackguards.

Nulfi feels a skip in his heart, for a moment he can't run or yell or even breath. The sky reels above him and the ground crashes into his face. He vaguely feels Shayla grabbing at him, rolling him over, wiping the spit and vomit from his mouth. Esni as Damal is looking down at him, along with two half-elves and Dulga. The Howler's look shocked and terrified, Shayla is at first worried and then laughing. It's a high, hysterical sound, as chilling as anything Nulfi has ever heard. He feels lightheaded, loose limbed, and clean with no thoughts of rape or murder . Cleaner in his soul and body than he has in a long time. Somehow the curse has relented or weakened. He can feel himself stronger, feel himself pushing the thing back. The sounds of battle bring him back and he sits up, slightly coughing and recgonizing Silas' play. He can't see them, but he can hear and smell the Howlers circling Jurada's camp, readying themselves with naptha and flaming cocktails. He can smell blood in the air and lightning. Several of the Griffons heard his call and now stand waiting for orders. Others he can see down by their camp, the Welsh archers gathering their great bows, Caplet, halfblind and deaf, gathering others around him. Red and yellow smoke swirls around the shack where they last met, obscuring any sight of Elberich, Razzul and the Duchess, if they are still there. His gnoll senses smell Elberich's magic engulfing Jurada's Tent and he hears Taylon's powerful voice, unflinching and commanding, followed by steel screeching across steel and the smell of more blood and something worse, fiends! Elberich watches and feels his spells go off. He gets only a glimpse of them before a reeking rotting vegetable smell surrounds him. The small quarters of the shack grow even tighter as a burly, heavy furred fiend leers in the doorway. It's ape-like face dribbling poison down it's chin and into it's matted chest hair. The demon is only about five feet tall, but massively built, particularly around the shoulders, neck and chest. Elberich can feel others outside, this thing did not come alone. Razzul draws his sword and steps into the creature, interrupting it's casting with his slash. Razzul's blade rips open the fiend's breast and dumbfounds it for a moment. Taylon hears Nulfi yelling, calling the Griffon's to arms and calls upon the power of the Saints. He feels Cutberth's wrath coursing through him, giving him strength and purpose. Crit's eyes turn small and hard and Crit or whatever inhabits his body starts to swing at Taylon while the succubi slips protectively behind him. Only Crit's face blanches, his lips and cheeks growing slack and he falls over as Bregwulf breaks the enchantment and dispels the demon hiding within Critias. Behind Taylon Lasser is half turned around when he goes down, his throat slashed, his hot blood showering Taylon, Bregwulf and Armod, who is just now coming to his senses. Taylon! Taylon! they're invisible, shouts Catwig. Taylon sees the man stab the air and blood and guts erupt. Suddenly the tent fills with harsh smoke and glittering dust, covering their foes, but not them. Taylon hears one man fall vomiting onto his boots and another coughs and tries to slink away, thinking himself safe, not realizing the smoke outlines his form. Two other men shrink and make shrill cries as the glittering dust blinds and reveals them to be drow. Another man in the back curses and turns, running and vomiting from the tent. Taylon looks around, seeing the now cowering Succubi, one man in black leather armor holding two short swords another man in heavier plate and a horned helm(Blackguard/Anti-Paladin)with a heavy chested, white furred fiend standing at his side.
OOC-Nulfi can attack Jurada's tent or help out at the Griffon's camp. Taylon and Elberich roll for initiative.

He should go with them, to fight by his brothers' side, but that isn't the mission. Time to see what the Howlers are made of. And let them see what he is made of. Already attacking Jurada? You've been planning, you have. let's go then, and see what you've gotten into. Hope you don't mind a little assistance.

Elberich curses the situation. More demons! They'd been fools to remain. Now the only question is whether they'd survive their folly. The close quarters hamper the wizard, further limiting his options.
Demons may not be mortal, but they still need to see. Elberich goes with the tried and true, generating another cloud of glittering particles outside the shack's entrance, engulfing several demons without unduly endangering any Griffons nearby fighting for their lives. Elberich also targets the wounded demon with Magic Missiles, and 5 glowing orbs fly forth to strike the fiend.

OOC-Taylon SA Will DC 18, AC and HP everyone
IC-The succubi looks up at Taylon, fear in her eyes. Taylon can see her cowering there, can see the other foes not bothered by Elberich's magic moving towards him. The succubi whispers,Attack the Lgura. Taylon feels her words seep and flow around him, feels them breathe into his lungs. Three arrows zip past his shoulder, one hits the man in black armor right in the cheek and slides off the bone, ripping his face open. He knocks the second arrow down his left blade and dodges the third arrow enough so it only grazes his shoulder. Taylon dispels the man's Cat's Grace and Bull's Strength, along with causing his right hand blade to dim into regular steel. The hair fiend looks stunned or amused at the coughing and wretching humans around him. It's looking around, it's head swiveling almost 180' and licking it's lips in anticipation before it stops and sniffs at Taylon,it's red nostrils flaring. The Horned Knight has no such hesitation, attacking Taylon with a hateful, maddened frenzy. His first attack clangs off of Taylon's helm, his great blade glowing with harsh magic. He reaches out with his other hand, grasping Taylon's throat. He screams at Taylon in some strange and most foul sounding language when Taylon's power dispels his vampiric touch just as the man grabs Taylon's throat.(Also his corrupt weapon spell) The shaggy demon, a Lgura, finally moves to attack once the blackguard engages Taylon. The furred fiend swipes twice at Taylon, both times leaving ugly creases in Taylon's armor and twice at Bregwulf, knocking Bregwulf over onto Armod, who he was trying to help up. Nulfi looks over at the Griffon's camp. Druce and a blond haired welshman already have the archers formed and Nulfi watches their first volley of flaming arrows streak across the dark sky and into Jurada's camp, hitting "fellow Griffons," and starting small fires. Sgt Caplet has other Griffons, many of them new, forming a shield wall around the archers, protecting them from the goblins and fiends that have attacked the camp. He also sees over fifty of the Howlers now stepping out of the darkness at the edge of camp and shooting or chopping down anyone they see running from or around Jurada's camp. Several tents flare quickly into bonfires, filling the night sky with orange and red light and the screams of burning men and drow. Shayla has stopped laughing. Esni has taken hold of her and the two of them now stare and then break into wide smiles listening to Nulfi. Esni draws his blades while Shayla leans over and kisses Nulfi on the forehead, before knocking her short bow and nodding in the direction of Jurada's camp and following Nulfi, Dulga and the other Howlers in the attack. Coming out of the fire and confusion, Nulfi sees many humans, mostly servants and laborers getting shot and chopped to death by Howlers. Even worse some are torn to death by leaping fiends. The creatures have heavy brows, deep brooding eyes and are covered in heavy, ragged looking orange fur. They also leap 30 to 40 feet at a time, quite accurately landing on and then tearing some poor victim apart. Nulfi counts at least fourteen of them, two of which are now looking at him. Elberich watches the fiend casually batter Razzul aside and then step on Father Raynier, who was in the midst of casting a protection from evil spell. Elberich hears Raynier's bones cracking, then the awful snap of his sternum as the demon's weight crushes his chest. He can't see Hector anywhere. The Bar-Lgura snaps it's jaws, cackling at him. Elberich gets his first spell off and then the fiend grabs hold of his hair, lifting him off the ground. Elberich fires missiles into the creatures gloating face and watches it's smile widen and disappear as his missiles hit and destroy the creatures skull. Elberich falls from it's lifeless grasp and watches the fiend collapse atop Father Raynier's body.

Well, those are definitely fiends. Looks bad. Silas, if you don't want to end up massacred, you best get your priorities straight! Stop killin' camp followers and serving girls and GET THOSE HAIRY BASTARDS! Putting his own advice into action, he pulls the trigger, firing the bolt he had just prepared into the demon-thing that's eyeballing him. Elberich is stunned at just how quickly everything has gone to Hell. After a moment, he shakes his head to clear it and gets back to his feet, looking over at Raynier's broken body. Knowing the answer already, he can't help turning to the disguised Duchess. "Is there anything that can be done for the Father?"
Elberich takes advantage of the momentary lull inside to cast Protection from Evil on the Duchess. If nothing else, the wizard can try seeing to her safety. He glances at Black Hand, "Raz, you still with us? Don't know how much longer we can stay here." Now where'd Hector get to? Probably smart enough to go invisible.
Wanting to figure out his next move, Elberich takes a quick peek at the chaos outside the shack. Secure Rolls: Initiative 1d20(1)+2 = 3

Catwig shoots the fiend right in the mouth, staggering it for a moment and Armod rises up, charging into the side of the Horned Knight, knocking him loose from Taylon and dragging the man to the ground. Taylon steps back, feels the succubus' futile attempt to charm him, a Servant of the Saints! hah. He calls forth his own holy power in response and the spiritual weapon bangs off her forehead, and sends her sprawling and bloodied to the floor. The fiend furiously shakes the arrows loose from it's jaws and once again leaps at Taylon. Taloned Hands, gnarled clawed feet and bleeding jaw all come at him at once. Taylon has no time or space to manuever and the foul thing lands right on him. He feels the legs wrap around him and the feet try to claw into his kidneys while one fist slams hard into his rib the other tries to claw through his armpit to get at his heart. He hears and feels the beastly things feet scrabbling against his armor. Taylon feels the punch, but is not slowed by it in the least and when the Lgurra attempts to bite him, he turns his helm down to deflect the blow and rip open the demon's forehead. The creature has now wrapped it's legs around him, locking it's ankles together behind his back, making Taylon support them both while it leans back readying itself to pummel him some more. Elberich stops shaking his head to see the Duchess bent over, holding Hector's unconcious body in her lap and casting a healing spell on him. She is already radiating a powerful Protection from Evil and if Elberich stays within ten feet of her, her spell or aura will protect him too. She looks over at Father Raynier and sadly shakes her head 'no.' Hector's going to live. He'll have a tremendous head-ache when he wakes, but if nothing else happens to him, he will wake. What about you? Are you well? Razzul stands up, still holding his blade, blood dripping down his face from a gash in his forehead,We fight or die tonight Elberich. Our foe chose the field, now we must make amends for that mistake and conquer through wit and will. The Bar Lgura are minor demons, harmed by regular steel and wood. That will favor us. It is the other fiends, human and otherwise that truly concern me. Elberich is about to peek out of the shack when his world erupts in splinters of fire and wood. The explosion blows him almost twenty feet away. He is unharmed though. His spell resistance easily defeated the enemy spellcaster. Razzul, the Duchess and Hector are nowhere in sight. The shack is now a blazing inferno, lighting up the night and heating up the frozen corpses nearby. Elberich knows the enemy mage is a drow male(8th level ability)and most likely invisible. The rest of the Griffons, lead by Druce and Sgt Caplet have closed ranks, formed a shieldwall with the archers in the center and have already shot and killed two of the leaping demons and several heavily armored Horned Knights. Bunched up like that, they do represent a very rich target. Nulfi takes aim and hits the leaping fiend right below the throat. His bolt buried itself in the creatures hairy flesh up to the shaft. The demon's tongue lolls out, licking the wound, then grasps the bolt with it's tongue and pulls it out. It tastes the bolt once more before chomping down and swallowing it. The other fiend looking at Nulfi lets out a weird, shrill like howl and flies through the air at him feet first. Nulfi just finishes changing weapons when the monster lands on him, both feet hitting his shoulders, grasping and digging at him. One of the feet slips under his helm and scratches his neck. The creatures whole weight is now on him and it's trying to knock him off his feet and drooling on him at the same time.
OOC-Nulfi and Taylon both took 9 points of damage. Nulfi make a Str roll to keep from toppling, unless you want to do that. Nulfi staggers back from the onslaught. he's hard for most humans to knock over, but his opponent is not human. He whirls and slashes the curved drow blade with surprising grace - judging by his enemies' tactics, this fight is liable to come down to a scrum rather quickly, so best not to start with the heavy axe when he'd only have to drop it later.
Fair fighting toe to toe is not Nulfi's natural preference, so he begins looking for an edge, either someone to stand back to back with, or someone to help surround and flank these hairy brutes. No point in looking for an escape - dwarves just aren't build for rapid retreat.

The demon pulls it's head up and bashes down on Nulfi's helm. His ears ringing from the attack, Nulfi sweeps his blade over his own head. He feels his blade connect and the fiend falls off him, scratching and clawing at him the whole way down. The fiend howls and leaps up, now missing one foot due to Nulfi's blade. Suddenly the head falls over in a gleam of slicing silver and the fiend topples lifeless to the ground. Esni/Damal just smiles at Nulfi, shaking his head and pointing at Nulfi with his blade,It crapped on your head. Nulfi can't smell or see it, but he believes it. Looking around, Nulfi sees several of Jurada's pavilions on fire and one surrounded by Howler's, killing everything that moves in or around the tent. Jurada's main Pavilion still stands, ominously quiet and still amid the rest of the burning camp. Elberich gets no answer from Razzul. There is still no sign of Razzul, Hector, or the Duchess. He spies the male drow moving along the fringe of camp. The drow is cautiously moving towards the remains of the burning shack. He is invisible and using an obscure spell making it hard to focus on him. He is looking right at Elberich and sends a gleaming bolt of energy crackling into the Griffon's mage. At the same time, Elberich's own magic missiles streak and dissipate harmlessly into the Drow's protective shield spell. Taylon shrugs the fiend off him and steps away. He watches his spiritual weapon pummel the succubi, first knockng her down, then again and battering again as she tries to climb to her knees. Taylon's wrath flows around Bregwulf and Catwig. Bregwulf dispels evil and three of Bar Lgurras and another feathered demon disappear. Armod lifted the horned knight in the air and slammed him down, headfirst. The man's neck breaks and Armod looks around for another foe. The Horned Knight staggers up, his neck and head lolling about his shoulders, an unholy light beaming from his crooked visor.
OOC-Taylon and Nulfi took no damage that round. Elberich has to SA Reflex DC 17. Nulfi can head to the pavilon and join Taylon or he can attack some of the fleeing survivors. Elberich grimaces as his magic missiles are blocked. He's not particularly surprised, but sometimes you get lucky and the cheap shot works. He reflexively ducks back as the drow tries returning the favor.
The silence behind him is ominous, and he fears the worst. Elberich has to end this quickly. He incants his next spell and points at the drow. A bolt of electricity arcs toward his foe.

Nulfi grunts in annoyance. Well, it couldn't make me smell any worse. He glares over at the Howlers What do you idiots think you're doing? There're still demons about! He begins walking towards the commotion, but slows as his gaze returns to Jurada's tent. The whole point of the attack was to kill Jurada, wasn't it? Why isn't there a commotion over there? Or at least a spreading pool of blood. Oh bugger me, he growls, This is going to get worse, isn't it? He jogs towards the pavilion to see what is going on.
