Jonas has had a whirlwind of a month. Phillip of Burgundy, the Bishops from Novgorod and the Judicators and a mage-guardian from Riga all arrive with important business to conduct. All while the enemy is rapidly approaching in hopes of laying siege to Trier.
Besieged from within and without, Jonas searches for answers and allies among the various personalities that come calling at his door. All too soon battle is joined as enemy forces summon an army of ghouls and zombies to rise from the catacombs and disrupt the city and open the gates to the approaching army.
Jonas and his Knights of the Broken Lance set out to rescue his ally the mage-guardian Svetlana and secure the city. In the process he journeyed down into the catacombs where Gringamore came calling from the Celtic Underworld and he raised shades of past Church heretics and rebels pleading their cause to him. Coming out of the catacombs he emerged into a city dying from flame and foe.

OOC-Jonas left Silakova in Trebeta's Tower. That is where Jonas, Sigmae and Silakova looked over maps and started their planning. Next to the High Tower, it is considered the most defensible place in Trier.

IC-Crango motions the other greek to head to the roof, Sir Lanibie follows him, then Brother Gilbey, Jonas, Ramla, Crango and the other four. The wooden stairs shake constantly while they climb. Jonas can feel explosions below and from within the building itself. Someone has cast a fireball spell and two streaks of lightning flash across their heads, momentarily blinding them. Crango yells out, keep your heads down! That is followed by a yelp of pain and Sir Lanibie casting resist lightning on himself and leaping from the stairs to the rooftop, sword out, shield raised in protection. A huge slobbering sound drowns out all the other noises followed by Gilbey screaming in terror. A huge, misshapen head, vaguely toad like is staring down at them. The huge tongue has struck Gilbey in the chest and is now pulling him into the monsters gaping maw.

OOC-Jonas roll for initiative and combat stats and action.

Jonas is slightly amused that he has very little combat or spell casting skill, having been studying all his life. His enemies seemed to have a wide range of combat ability, yet he was not blessed in all his insights to be given great spelll or combat prowess. He was certainly getting a crash course in combat now. A toad, they sent a toad to attack him? Jonas is certain the Toad is not Earth or Fire, but perhaps Ramla can Turn it if it is part Water subtype. Jonas takes a defensive stance towards the back as he usually does given he is a bard, still trying to make his way to the Trebeta's Tower.

Countersong if spells are being thrown around, Inspire Courage +1 to attack and damage if not.

Brother Gilbey screams out, desperately kicking and flailing his arms as the monster pulls him. Jonas watches Brother Gilbey go head first into the creatures mouth, followed by another slobbering bone scrunching sound. Brothe Gilbey is no longer moving.
Sir Lanibie hits the roof running, chopping into the back of the slimy Toad-like fiend and for the moment, drawing it's attention. It rises up on hind legs, standing close to twelve feet tall. Gilbey's motionless legs stick out of it's mouth. Lanibie hacks into it again, bright green ooze now covering his sword and shield. The toad demon opens it maw, dropping the crushed and acid burned Gilbey to the ground. A load, long croaking sound starts to come out, then stops as Jonas' singing drowns it out.
The creature violently bats Sir Lanibie aside, almost knocking him off the roof. It's head swivels to glare at Jonas. Flashes of pain start shooting through Jonas...

He shuts out the pain, maintaining his focus on the Countersong, protecting himself and the others. He can't see Crango or Lanibie, but the other greek rises unsteadily to his feet, nodding in thanks to Jonas for stopping the pain. Jonas can see the rest of his group shaking themselves off and looking up in horror as the toad like thing lifts into the air and glides down upon them. Vicar Brabam tries to turn it and fails while Sir Ulfius and Sir Agrious raise their shields trying to fend it off. Ulfius grunts and Jonas hears the heavy, wet thud of the fiends talons bashing into him. Sir Agrious falls back under the assault and for a moment Jonas is staring at the fiend's froglike eyes. Then the mouth opens and clamps down on Jonas' head!

OOC-Jonas takes fourteen points of damage.

OOC: Didn't see Ramla's actions, so I'll post his actions for two rounds. I misnamed Moderate as Serious on the rolls, but the rolls are for Serious as the damage rolls show.

If the daemon is of Water subtype, Ramla can Turn the daemon. Ramla can turn 19 HD and have it take 29 damage, destroyed if it has 10 or less HD. If not, he'll cast Dismissal (23 on SR check, Will Save DC 26-creature HD) and Inflict Critical Wounds. If the Daemon is a native outsider, Inflict Critical Wounds followed by Serious Wounds.

Jonas is shocked his head almost came off from the giant Daemon! Jonas casts Protection from Evil, hoping it will help prevent the attacks, while the fighters gain their composure and kill it.
Secure Rolls:

The creature envelopes Jonas' head and starts to lift and crush at the same time. He can hear Ramla's muffled yelling,It's not real! it's not real!followed by a shriek and a hideous bone severing sound. Ramla is turning and burning undead now. The stench of roasting maggot infested flesh is now all around them.
Jonas can now feel his feet dangling, his head stuffed like the flu. The weight of the toad jaws crushing him.

OOC: Use the Rebuke checks in previous post for Ramla. Ramla can rebuke 19 HD, commanding 10 or less HD that he can select.

Jonas is slightly confused at what Ramla says, but forces himself to attempt to disbelieve what is happening. Suddently there is no creature and he falls down, barely landing on his feet. Jonas will move to get the rest of the men out of hear and towards a secure location with Silakova as soon as possible. The one thing that might worry him is who summoned the illusion Deamon.

Ramla is rebuking and possibly commanding the undead that were attacking him.

Jonas gets up and dusts himself off. Standing, he notices the lack of stench and burning close by. He can also see no more undead. The smoke and fog are still there, he can see it thickening down below, settling in low spots like pools of water. Ramla is leaning over, his hands on his knees and breathing heavily. He gasps out,Shadow magic. Someone is using shadow magic against us. These things are only quasi real. They are 'here' enough to hurt us, even kill us if we believe them, but they don't actually exist. They are mixing real undead with these shadow images trying to confuse and disorient us and enable the true undead to get close and do the real killing. Sir Ulfius and Vicar Brabham are the ones who figured it out. We lost one of the friars. I don't know what happened to him. I lost track in all the confusion. Brother Gilbey is still alive and mostly in unhurt. He does have a happily ecstatic and bewildered expression on his face. Jonas can tell his mind is addled. Getting swallowed and crushed in your belief can do that to you. Jonas looks around, counting out Sir Lanibie, Sir Ulfius, Sir Agrious, Vicar Brabham, Friar Cleece, Friar Clayburn, Brother Gilbey, Brother Heth, Crango, Ramla and the other greek. All of them look winded and ready for the last run. They only have what looks like two blocks to go to Trebeta's Tower.

HP: 45/46 AC: 14 Magic Circle Against Evil, Countersong 26

Jonas is going to start another Countersong to help as they move. Two blocks should take less than thirty seconds moving slowly, but it would be worth a little more securing. Ramla will cast Magic Circle Against Evil to help strengthen the group even more. Be ready, someone knows that we are on our way. Someone should have Detect Magic up to try to trace the location of the Illusionist. Jonas goes over to Gilbey and blesses him, telling him that he needs to focus on the tasks at hand. The Saints have given Gilbey another opportunity at fighting for them and against the evil that is attacking Trier and the West. Jonas heals himself one time. With that done, he lets the others cast their spells before heading quickly past the two blocks to Trebeta's Tower.

Jonas and his party make it halfway down the street when a hideous howing drowns out all other sounds. Jonas can tell the howl is real, with an auditory enchantment enhancement. It's meant to overwhelm them with it's sonic force. Jonas tries to counter the shout. When he realizes he's failing, he raises his voice and changes his pitch just in time to blunt the shout spell and protect his party. Sir Lanibie points down a wide alley cluttered with crates, planks and old writing desks. It's coming from there. Ramla casts dispel magic and they hear several popping and glass breaking sounds and a tall, thin boned man dressed entirely in green, no not dressed, he is green, skin, hair, eyes,he is all green, steps back, almost falling over. He shakes the sweat from his eyes and out of his hair and points a black wand, tipped with a red ruby straight at Ramla, Die Jonas!
Jonas doesn't even have time to think before his world explodes in fire.

HP: 45-37?+11/46 AC: 14, Countersong 26. The Countersong should allow Jonas to use the save of 26 to make the Reflex save

Jonas tries to hurry, when he finally understand that some foe has used a bad joke of old writing desks that he would have loved to spend a lot of time working on. No introductions? Jonas tries to tell what the green creature race is (goblin, orc?) Jonas feels the impact of fire on him, still surviving. Jonas continues going quickly across, instructing Ramla to stay close with a spell to take care of the rogue caster and Crango to close in on the caster. Hopefully Silakova has a few sentries ready to pull the group in now that they are getting close.

The roar of the explosion almost drowns out Jonas' singing. He can feel the flames licking and crackling all around him even as his song diverts the fiery bolt away from his company. He feels singed, his hair curling, his skin sunburned, but not blistering.
Sir Lanibie, Crango, the other greek, Sir Ulfius, Friar Clayburn and Brother Heth all fire at the green skinned foe. He is definitely more human or demi-human than humanoid. He looks like more like a half-elf than anything else with is his fine hair, delicately thin body and deft, quick movements.
Every shot misses, darting sideways or turning to smoke when the bolts get within five feet of their foe.
The 'green mage' is rapidly backing down the alley as Sir Agrious and Friar Cleece charge. He suddenly moves straight up and while doing so, his necklace sends a number of vividly bright blue and orange missiles at Ramla and Jonas.

OOC-Everyone with Jonas and Jonas himself took 18pts of damage from the fireball. Jonas then took 14 from the magic missile and Ramla 28.

Ramla sees that normal missiles had no effect and unleashes a blaze of light. The green skinned man tries to dodge and fails. Ramla's blast twirls the mage in the air and into the building. They all hear the sharp crack of his bones breaking even as his clothes and hair catch fire. He starts screaming and continues as he falls, crashing into the alley with another resounding cracking of bones. He barely moves, moaning softly. His breath slow and labored. Jonas can see two rib bones poking out of his clothes and his right thigh is bent in half backwards.
Ramla listens and looks around. Trebeta's Tower looks mostly deserted. Only the small sounds of rodents and goblins scuffling about coming from the still stones of the tower. Two curling trails of greasy black smoke flow slowly out of two of the upper windows. Ramla can see three swarthy looking men rolling die with a group of sallow skinned goblins. It looks they are playing for some rather ornate silverware.
While Ramla looks around, Friar Clayburn lays hands on both Jonas and Ramla. The others, Sir Lanibie, Sir Ulfius and Friar Cleece cautiously move up on the groaning and broken mage.

Jonas casts Detect Magic and takes at least the necklace from the Green Mage. The next move seems to be to find the closest secure Order of the Broken Lance location to regroup. Jonas watches Sir Lanibie expertly chop off the mages head. A strange, bright pink colored blood seeps from his wounds. He is definitely not human. His bones are also hollow, like a birds. His skin and hair are naturally green, but he has also used pigments and colors to add and enhance the look. He is definitely not Turlor, not elven or human or any kind of demi-human Jonas has ever seen before. He has heard of such folk though. He believes he is looking at a Carillian. They dwell or come from the east, Argentum he believes. Argentum is a mining city on the far eastern marches of the Aqualonian Empire. For a long time the Aqualonians ruled the city and mined the silver found in the mountains and hills around the city. It's fortunes waning, riddled with foes from within and without, the Aqualonians were not able to ward off a Fire Giant attack aided by their Carillian mage allies.
Jonas does find the necklace of magic missiles with seven charges left and the wand of Fireballs with five charges left, along with a green banded ring in the shape of snake biting it's tail. Only the head is not a snake, but a Jackal, a clear symbol of Set.
Everything about him is foreign or unfamiliar, his clothes, his hairstyle and the dye used on his hair and face and body. Jonas, we need to keep moving. The Tower is just down the street. Why does it look overrun? Can you contact Silakova?

Jonas picks up the necklace, wand, and ring. He secures them, but does not put them on. Jonas has encountered the minions of Set before, when a magical device backfired and consumed the user. Fire Giants aiding mages meant a powerful combination.
Jonas has no idea of how to contact Silakova without knowing exactly where he is, but he can Locate Object on on item he knows Silakova to be carrying. He'll try that approach first. I'm not sure, but let's go clear out the Tower. I told Silakova that that we would meet in the middle, so he should be heading for the Tower. They look towards Trebeta's tower. Goblins now pour out of the front doors, some with crossbows, many others with swords and spears. They are all rushing towards Jonas and his men. Crango and Sir Lanibie prepare to meet the rushing gobins while Jonas tries to locate Silakova.
He has no trouble finding him. Silakova is still in Trebeta's tower on the third floor where they met earlier. Jonas locates Silakova and feels a tingling sensation followed by Silakova's strong, smooth voice, entirely calm and steady,How fares it Jonas? I lost you when you went down into the catacombs. It's good to see you back. Did you find anything useful? Have you rescued Svetlana or secured any more towers? Silakova is communicating with Jonas through a Rary's telepathic bond spell so he and Jonas can talk freely at length as long as the spell lasts.
