Jonas,it is Olthius voice. Jonas looks and sees the man holding a huge, three feet by two feet tome and over a foot thick. The thing is covered in a thick coat of dust. Glyphs and enchanted beasts like unicorns, salamandars, and winged serpents, run and dance and fly across the cover. This could be of some help to us. Prelate Aguila brought it here to compare notes and facts from other tomes. It came from his library in Chalon. I believe it's Aegyptian in origin, possibly compiled by the Priesthood of Thoth. See these two figures underneath all the others, yet taller and overlooking them all. The Stork headed one is Thoth, the Aeqyptian god of Knowledge and the strange dwarf looking figure next to him is Ptah. He is like the God of Thought and Inspiration, though I could be wrong about that. I don't know how to open it or why Aguila left it behind. Your young page Aymon is the one who brought it to me. That seemed strange to me at the time, but with so much going on I didn't ponder it too long. Now, I think Aymon stole it from Aguila. He's a very clever lad Jonas, too clever for just a page. You should really consider grooming him for more important, challenging duties. I would be willing to take him on as an apprentice.

OOC: Going to give it to Elberich at the Council.
Jonas looks at the book. The last time that he read a book from Aymon didn't turn out so good. He'll have to wait and get it studied. It is likely trapped and at least magically locked. I might be able to open it, but I'm not sure it is worth the risk after the constant attempts on my life. Aguila or someone would know that I seek much knowledge and would love to open it, despite any warnings or traps.
I agree Aymon is in line for a promotion. I tried to give him one with the Broken Lance, but he didn't want it. I'd think he would like to be your apprentice. Seeing how clever he is, he might just show you a thing or two one day.

OOC-Jonas traveling to see an ailing King would raise no eyebrows. It was common for Bishops and Kings to mix particularly since Champagne is so close to Trier and part of King Louis Kingdom of Normandy.
IC-Olthius nods, smiling at Jonas,Thank you Arch-bishop, young Aymon could prove a great use to me.There is a banging on the door, followed by the sounds of men cursing. It's Aedvar and Crango. Olthius looks towards the door and waves his hand, taking off the wizard lock and allowing the anxious Knights and Crango into the room. Crango looks around searching for foes while Aedvar walks over to check on Jonas,Gastion Berek attacked again. We think we killed a couple of his spawn and burned a vampire. Gastion killed four men and stole fourteen votive candles dedicated to St. Ohgma before we even knew he was here. Are you well, you look a little pigued? I don't think you should travel without a guard anymore Jonas.

OOC: Jonas leveled and updated! Thanks.
IC: Jonas will indeed travel to see King Louis, at least that is the official plan sent out to everyone. Jonas is glad that Aymon will be of greater use and Olthius will have help in the important things that need studying. Jonas still isn't totally sure about Crango due to his deity, but he seems alright so far. The candles likely had to do with the theory Irene was working on with the destruction of important places the Saints had traveled. He needs to check on someone first, Do we have any idea of where Irene is located? Well, Gastion Berek seems to be a growing problem. He messed with my patron Saint, and that is just going to get under my skin making it a little more personal. I'm fine, but your right about traveling with a guard. Ramla is certainly checking for undead around them and preparing for a glorious battle against the Vampire Gastion that proved more than great opponent last time they fought. Ramla at least somewhat hoped that their paths would cross with his new found power and forgoing rebuking undead.

Aedvar's face turns hard and fused with cold anger,Irene was last seen with that ranger Camlin. We haven't seen hide nor hair of them since the fighting started. Cardinal Silakova asked about them as well. I could tell by his tone he doesn't care for Camlin anymore than do I. I'm not sure what you see in him Jonas. I would tread most carefully around him Jonas, I don't trust the man and I doubt he has your best interests in mind. Crango has stepped up behind Aedvar, silent and staring like a snake. Aedvar doesn't realize the man is there and almost jumps out of his armor when Crango speaks,Camlin has taken the princess to safety. It's what I would have done. Trier under siege is no place for the likes of her. Crango steps by Aedvar, lightly brushing shoulders with the Vicar,I would take your personal safety upon my shoulders Jonas. I would also like to speak to you about a private matter. Other men have come into the room now causing Olthius to fuss about the mess and trying to usher people out as soon as they enter.

Jonas isn't surprised that others don't trust Camlin, Camlin will take good care of her. We traveled together for a while. I'm not sure about my own personal best interests, but his interests tend to align just fine. Did Cardinal Silakova ask about anything else? Jonas isn't worried about what Silakova might have wanted, just slightly curious. He is sure Aedvar doesn't like Crango pushing his way past. You'll forgive me, but I just let someone do that a few minutes ago that turned out to be an assassin. Jonas still wants to figure out what Crango wants, If this is urgent, I can try to read your surface thoughts. I don't do this lightly and ask permission before attempting such things. Jonas says the last part mainly directing towards Aedvar and others who would not like such things being practiced. Jonas takes out a copper coin (Detect Thoughts), waiting for permission. Jonas is amused at Othius trying to get people out of the room, it seemed like something he would do for his own study room.
Going back a little, Alexios I, Michael I, and Constantine III seemed to be influenced by Orindol the Green and this Order of Wizards. Hopefully it didn't have anything to do with Gandalf or the "Saints of Tdonia". Orindol seems to have a connection to the Rakshasa's somehow, and now Lotan feared Murazor and the Rakshasa's attacking him. Rakshasa were certainly Phase I of Vecna's plan. Hopefully this was at least part of the puzzle that Jonas had been missing... Secure Rolls: Sense Motive (Crango) 1d20(11)+6 = 17 Bardic Knowledge (Orindol the Green) 1d20(3)+24 = 27

Jonas tries to remember anything else he might have read or any other mention of Orindol the Green in any stories or songs he may have heard over the years and suddenly finds himself drawing blanks. He has difficulty even sorting out what he already knows about the, about who? Jonas has to concentrate to even remember Orindol's name. The room is quiet and tense and Jonas realizes everyone is staring at him with rather concerned looks. Aedvar says in a tentative voice,Jonas, are you well? Can you hear us? I think he may have suffered a head injury in the fight. Such injuries are hard to recgonize and treat, but loss of hearing and concentration are two of the symptoms. Crango looks at Jonas' eyes,I think he's coming around Vicar. The shock of battle is wearing off, a small thing and not worth any great worry. Aedvar leans back some, not trusting Crango in the least, then answers Jonas for the second time,He asked about Wyrm's Tongue Tower and also wanted to know if we had secured the West Gate Tower yet. Jonas can see Olthius. The old mage has stopped fussing about people in his study and is busy quickly reading and turning the pages of an old, large tome, dark green in color and bound with ox hide hasps.

Jonas is getting annoyed with all his insights and no real world power to actually do much about it. He still had accomplished much, but even the Saints seem not to give him any credit. It seemed he would have to go out and kill someone himself before anyone would think better of him. Sigmae and the other Saints knew his nature, and left him without another human or other race in this world to help change him into the man the seemingly wanted him to become without actually clearly stating how. The instructions were at best to run and hid into a little corner from how he understood them. I'm fine, just need to get use to assassins coming at me all the time I guess. Turning towards Aedvar, trying to show him that he at least agrees partly with Aedvar's concerns. That isn't that surprising. Just need to keep a close eye on him, but perhaps a useful ally for now. He wonders what Olthius is reading, always ready for another book, What have you found, Othius? Jonas also looks at Crango to see if he will let Jonas cast the spell on him.

Aedvar lightly grabs Jonas by both shoulders,You should get used to that Bishop, it comes with the position. Why do you think the Holy Father and Cardinals have the Praetorian Guard? Our Church has many enemies from the outside and once you start exerting influence, you will gain enemies from within as well. Crango looks a bit discomfitted. It's the first time he has looked that way to Jonas. He doesn't say anything, just continues to look more and more uncomfortable, relaxing some when Jonas' attention turns to Olthius. The old mage looks up from his tome and motions Jonas over, pointing out a finely drawn and painted picture, that looks like it was done yesterday. It's quite a contrast to the rest of the moldly looking pages and bindings of the tome. In the picture are three tall, lean, human looking men of middle age. One is dressed in forest green and holding a birch staff with a silver shepherd's crook on top. Next to him is a man dressed in a robe of many colors. He holds a blackthorn cudgel with dragon runes scribed into the hard surface. Both men are looking up at a third man sitting on a large Yew stump, much like a King upon his throne. The figure on the throne is dark haired, dark cloaked and extremely beautiful, probably the most beautiful human Jonas has ever seen. Jonas knows without question the beautific figure is Asmodeus' patriarch or avatar. Burning beneath them is a hot fire made of oak, willow, alder, pine, mistletoe, Holly, and ash. The seven sacred trees of the Druids of Eire. Olthius' voice trembles with hesitation and wonder, Jonas, they are named Orin Greensleave, Edolen Windspray and Lord Donsfall.

Jonas has to agree with Aedvar, even if he wasn't very concerned about the assassins right now. Yes, from within and without enemies are gained. Hopefully there will be a time when the enemies within are just a matter of slight dispute, instead of a full war of diverging idealogy. Jonas wonders why Crango is so discomforted, and still waits on his answer about the spell at some point. As Olthius shows the book, Jonas has to hold off just burning the book. He hates Asmodeus, but the book has information that must be learned about the beautiful one. The bruning of sacred trees was most troubling, but not exactly unexpected from the man. If this avatar could somehow bridge the gap into the Material Plane with the three figures, it would spell a lot more trouble for the West. Jonas had few true enemies that he would refuse to even consider as temporary allies in the Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos groups, but these men and Asmodeus were certainly at the top of the list even before Sharku. Very good work Othius. Secure Rolls: Bardic Knowledge (Druids of Eire) 1d20(12)+24 = 36 Bardic Knowledge (Orin Greensleave) 1d20(9)+24 = 33 Bardic Knowledge (Edolen Windspray) 1d20(15)+24 = 39 Bardic Knowledge (Lord Donsfall) 1d20(3)+24 = 27

Olthius continues, his voice still shaking with excitement and trepidation,This tome is a copy of one from the Time of Skelos. They knew then how to preserve paintings and drawings. I've read in other places of people who used magic and painting together to do marvelous things. There is nothing like it even hinted at in our times except by Enrico and the Erastus the Wild. This painting and a couple of others like it are preserved in the same way. Only this tome is not that old. Someone out there within the last few hundred years knew how to bring magic to art. This tome is not more four hundred years old. All those trees burning are sacred to the Druids, the Druids of Eire in particular. It's definitely symbolic of them being overcome, which happened in gaul and Albion and Caledonia, and parts of Eire. It was all done by the Church. That Yew stump, I believe represents Yggdrasil, the World Tree of the Norse belief. You do see it don't you? This is the beginning of the plan whose bitter fruits we fight against now. There is more Jonas. We have to find Camlin. He is the one who brought this tome and several others like it from southern or central Burgundy. He said there was a whole library guarded by undead Templars and such. He wasn't able to take it all with him. He said he shut up it up, hid them away as best he could. He didn't tell me where though. Such tomes could help us a great deal. Sisinnios II had an advisor called Edolen. He was called "The Osprey" which was the shape he often took. He was said to be a druid or a magi of Hermes. Aedvar has ushered everyone out of the room except for Jonas, Olthius, Ramla, Crango and himself. Another man moves in before he closes the door. He is Crango's silent partner. Jonas has yet to hear the man speak. As he approaches, Jonas smells garlic and ginger about him. He is not greek like Crango, he looks more cultured. He speaks with heavy venetian accent,I agree to your detecting thoughts Bishop. Once you settle this affair, we can do so privately in a more discreet and suitable room. Until then, Crango and I will await your pleasure. He bows curteously to Jonas. Crango looks greatly relieved and stands easier now. Aedvar is now looking over Olthius's shoulder and Ramla has opened up another tome and is quickly leafing through it's pages.

OOC: Jonas doesn't know about Edolen being a suspect in the murder of Sisinnios II yet, but he'll be able to put it together later in the Reformation Council thread. OOC2: Jonas will use those previous rolls to see if he can reference the names with great tragedies against the forces of Good. OOC3: As I've already rolled Bardic Knowledge for Breas, let's use it to look into the Fomor race that Breas is supposed to be from.
Jonas is angered by the news, but glad that it has come to light. So the Church is shown to help Asmodeus' cause? That can't be allowed to continue. I'll check into Edolen, but I doubt that Sisinnios II approved. Sisinnios II decanonized Donas after all. Those in the painting likely can't die of old age, but hopefully they met their match somehow. I would doubt that, though.
Camlin should have told me about that, but we can't worry about those little things amongst allies right now. I do need to check up with him soon about many things, so I'll add it to the list. Hopefully he was successful in his other mission for me. Is Asmodeus' patriarch more beautiful than Satan? Jonas has seen the book, so he should be able to compare somewhat.
Edolen Windspray, AKA "The Osprey", AKA talented shapechanger and powerful, AKA Son of Breas, AKA founder of the Cult of Elemental Evil must be killed and destroyed like Asmodeus. Jonas tries to think of Breas and where the Osprey might be hiding now, particularly under a new name in the Church. ---------------- What is your name? Jonas asks the man before agreeing to meet in a private room. Jonas looks for other clues that might help in identifying actual information about the silent partner. Jonas doesn't go to a totally private room, there needs to be a few trusted Order of the Broken Lance guards around from his order like Sir Lanibie. This is the best as for discreet. They won't overhear what you tell me. What do you need to tell me? Jonas casts Detect Thoughts on Crango and/or the silent partner. Jonas is ready if they try anything, but hopefully they are honest enough to actually have something to say. Secure Rolls: Bardic Knowledge (Yggdrasil) 1d20(16)+24 = 40 Sense Motive 1d20(17)+6 = 23 Bardic Knowledge (Breas) 1d20(16)+24 = 40
