OOC: SORRY...hurricane Sandy knocked me out for awhile and then I wasn't able to log into RPM for a long time for some reason.

IC:

You are correct of course. Any encounter with my Uncle will likely end poorly. All the more reason to mobilize as quickly to delay the meetin g as much as possible.

As to his reputation...he is not first, nor the last lord to take such advantage of his position. Antoinette is certainly of marrying age, but she kept herself quite sheltered in her apartments at Fontenot. I fear she may be quite naive in such matters. Nevertheless, she is my charge, and my Uncle will never have her as wife as long as there is breath in my body.

Bedwyr smiles comfortingly at Alexandre,The encounter with your Unlce doesn't have to end poorly. It's all in how you manage the meeting. I would advise you to arrange the time and place and length of your stay, whereever it is you meet. Think of it as a battle, choose your ground, terrain is more important than many understand. If possible, sound him out first, try to gauge exactly what is most important to him, what he most hopes to gain from this meeting, much as your scouts would find the enemy lines, noting strengths and weaknesses. Then proceed from there. First though, decide what you want from this, if it's not possible, then what comes next? Try to keep what you seek in the forefront, hold the initiative so to speak, until you can gain and advantage or retreat as need be. I know it sounds complicated, and in some ways it is far more than a simple joust or swing of a sword, but the truth is, by the time swords are drawn, most battles have already been decided. Bedwyr continues combing his horse and dips down under the stallion's neck as he moves to the other side,This kind of diplomacy is not really meant for honest men like ourselves, but if you wish to survive in these times, it is something you should learn. Lucky for you, you have the proverbial "Ace in the Hole," in you dear, faithful, and wise wife. Though I know it seems unmanly and some would think ignoble, and unchivalrous, I would seek your wife's advise and counsel in this. It is something she has learned well in the courts of her father. I say this with no disrespect or blemish to anyone's honor.

Alexandre looks at the ground, apparently lost in thought, but he nods his head slowly as Bedwyr speaks. Looking up, he seems to have a new resolve. Thank you for your counsel in this matter m'lord. I have little patience for court intrigue, but tis true that wars are won and lost at the diplomacy table. I shall endeavor to represent our interests there as steadfast as I would on the battlefield...and of course, I shall not be such a fool as to ignore the wisdom my good wife!

OOC-Captain Saeric was the Steward of Fontentot and guardian of Antoinetta. He is a ranger and next to Lady Jenay, Alexandre's most reliable scout. He is also understands the Druids and Celts of the Wood better than most. He is now serving as Lady Jenay's replacement.

IC-Bedwyr's laughter fills the stables. His smile wide as the sky as he claps Alexandre on the back, enjoying Alexandre's enthusiastic reply about Joanna.
For a long moment, the two men stand regarding one another, surrounded by Bedwyr's laughter. That is until Alexandre notices Captain Saeric standing quietly off to the side. Saeric is waiting, but not patiently. Alexandre can tell the man needs to speak to him. When Alexandre acknowledges him, Saeric steps forward and in hushed tones that only Alexandre and Bedwyr can hear,Alex,he checks himself then, taking a more formal tone,Lord Alexandre, I have heard some most distressing rumors. Supposedly one of the royal carriages has broken down just across the border near Villane. I have good reason to believe the rumors truthful. When I first heard them, I asked some of our Gaul allies(The celtic Woodsman) to find the truth of the matter. They have confirmed the carriage is there and is from the King's Court. They said, and this was two days ago, that it had been attacked, pocked with arrows and seared by fire. Five people escaped, two men and three women. They are hiding in the forests and there are men, the Queen's men, looking for them. One of the Gauls, a Kennydyr Silverbow is watching them. Kennydry has not revealed himself to them just yet. He wants to know if you want him to let the Queen's men find them or if he should continue protecting and hiding them.

Alexandre waves aside Saeric's unintentional informality as the Steward is obviously distressed. That is news indeed my friend! Your discretion is certainly warranted in this matter, as you are certainly aware of the schism between our lord King as his Queen.

We would be remiss if we did not offer aid to the Kings men, eh? Have Kennydyr escort them to Fontenot, but ensure that the Queen's search party does not catch the scent.

Send word as soon as soon as the King's men are secure.

Sir Bedwyr assures me that we will shortly be pulled in the mire, so we must stay on guard more than I would prefer. Keep Antoinette out of sight of any of our new guests just to be certain. If she must be about, make sure she has at least two stout guards with her, and post a 24 hour watch on her door. Hand-picked men only Captain, we cannot afford any mishaps with the Lady's welfare.

I am deploying our forces in short order. Sir Guthlac will keep you informed of the details, and provide you anything that you need to ensure our position at Fontenot. I am counting on you to be our chief liaison with the woodsmen, we need their help now more than ever.

If there isn't anything else Captain...?

OOC: Just a reminder that Alex appointed a new head of the Ghost Riders (I forget her name at the moment, but it is the female Celt from the tournament). Captain Saeric will stay on as Steward of Fontenot though.

Also, still waiting to hear back from the diplomatic mission to the woodsmen sent before the tournament.

Sorry, not trying to be busybody! I am reminding myself of these things as much as you. I find it easy to lose track of details given the pace (my fault!) of the thread.

OOC-Lady Cethlenn is the new Commander of the Ghost Riders. Saeric is serving as Jenay's replacement, showing Cethlenn her responsibilites and smoothing over the transition. Once that is done he will return to his duties as Steward of Fontenot and Antoinetta's protector.
Secondly, I have no problem with reminders, Alex leads a simple life with complicated responsibilities. As you can see, the Gaulish woodsmen have been quite busy!

IC-Saeric gives a bow, not bothering to hide his smile. Alexandre knows Saeric has no love for the Queen and little for the King's laws, but the man is loyal to him, which Alexandre doesn't quite understand.I will do you as ask and send word as soon as I know more of the King's men. As for Lady Antoinetta, that I believe is the more difficult task. She has grown rather headstrong and has never liked "being watched." I also must confess, I doubt I can successfully 'confine' her to her rooms. I do add though My Lord, she is most adept at hiding in the woods and hills around Fontenot. She has peculiar talents in that. I will endeavor to do my best in regards to her safekeeping, but I must say, she usually knows of threats long before any of us, and plans accordingly.

Alexander gives a deep overly dramatic sigh and raises his hands in mock surrender.

It will only be a waste of good men if they will simply be reduced to playing hide and seek about the castle, especially if the Lady would take such amusements to heart.

He frowns as he considers the matter more carefully As you say, she is obviously no longer content to sit and work on her embroidery. But her powers are drawing increasing undue attention...

Glancing at Bedwry, Alexandre smiles as he hits upon a solution.

Please inform m'lady that I still serve as faithfully as regent of Fontenot until such time as she comes of proper age. If she wishes to stay at the castle, I will insist that she heed my word...including staying put when it seems prudent to do so.

However...perhaps she might prefer a change of scenery?

If woodcraft is her love, then she can foster with the Celts. I have no doubt they would take her as one of their own given her "peculiar talents." And surely the druids can offer her training to properly develop her skills.

Turning to Sir Bedwyr with a wry smile My uncle cannot "take" that which he cannot find, eh?

Bedwyr doesn't seem surprised or out of sorts by Saeric and Alexandre's lack of formality. His mouth smiles, but there is a hardness in his eyes that belies his happy countenance,That is true Alexandre. I am sorry you have to see this side of the King and Queen. This is the exact kind of behavior from them that I disdain and that has grown far too commonplace in recent years. It is one of the reasons I started attending Tourneys as a "Black Knight," hiding myself while scouting my 'noble friends.' If you would don the black, we can ride together and find these "Queen's Men," and learn their character as well as their Mistress'. This is one of those moments I had spoken of earlier. If you choose to ride home, and trouble yourself not with these affairs, I understand. If you join me, you would be most welcome, and I, most grateful.

Alexandre long considers Bedwry's offer before answering We have some time before the army would be ready to march...and it would do us no good to have the Queen's hounds loose in our yard when we depart, eh?

I will ride with you good sir, and see if we cannot get to the bottom of this.

Bedwyr gives Alexandre a hearty smile and the two men then set about planning and preparing their ride.
A heavy , almost frozen dew coats the trees and grass. The men and horses' breath smokes out of them in the dim morning light. Everyone is quiet and in good spirits, particularly two of Alexandre's young knights, Sir Dandryl and Sir Griflet. The small troop is made up of the two young Knights, the Ten, the scouts Kitredge and Bludwen(Bedwyr's man), Bedwyr and twelve of his men.

OOC-Alexandre wants to bring anyone else, let me know. The scout Kitredge is a man of mixed blood, part gypsy, part norman, part gaul. He is popular among the other men, he is a poet and a singer and often entertains the others around the campfires at night. He has light brown hair and dark gray eyes. He is 6-2, 220lbs. He is well liked and well respected among the men of Clegan Moor. He is one of Alexandre's original followers, having gone on the very first attack on Aldane.

OOC: Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd done with my master's thesis. I probably have a few rolling edits to do, but basically am finally done. Good times. Might actually have my life back now.

While Alex is on mission:

Sir Guthlac continue to prepare the levies of Aldane

Sir Rocio finalize mobilization of field army. Ghost Riders on steady recon patrol.

Adding Cadros and Neville to the party.

IC:

Alexandre sends Lavaine to find Sirs Cadros and Neville.

No time like the present for our newest brothers to join in the fight. Double time man! We leave post haste!

While the party is finalizing the preparations, and waiting for the last two members, Alexandre charges Kitredge and lifts him off the ground in massive bear hug.

Well met scoundrel! Not many of us left from the old days, eh? You still owe us a song, if memory serves. I'll take payment tonight when we camp.

Alexandre is in high spirits, excited to be back with his men, and ready to take the fight to the enemy. Far too long has he been sitting on his arse.

No sooner does Lavaine head out to find Cadros and Neville than Kitredge arrives at the stables. Alexandre surprises the scout and the others, except the Ten, who are used to Alexandre's behavior, when he bear hugs Kitredge, lifts him off the ground and swings the man around before setting him down. Kitrege catches his breath and smiles wide and happy and somewhat embarrassed,Well met my Lord, I will pay that price for certain. No man should wander the woods in debt. Kitredge is laughing as he says the last. Alexandre's mood has not only enlivened the usually quiet scout, but everyone else as well. In such high spirits they ride out into the cold early winter morning.
It doesn't take long for Bludwen and Kitredge to locate suspicious Knights and their troops. They find three seperate groups, one led by Sir Mangoris, who has a reputation as cruel lord and skilled tourny knight. The second group is led by Sir Ambriere and Sir Hourges. They are a new Order of Knights recently gaining their Charter by the Queen's will. They are the Knights of the Black Mace. The third group are the Knights of the Sash led by Father Ecury and his brother Sir Igny de Pointe. Kitredge considers the Knights of the Black Mace the most formidable and organized of the three groups and they are definitely here hunting the lost coach. The Knight's of the Red Sash are also looking for the lost coach and although they have the largest group, numbering close to 70 men, they are the least organized and watchful. Sir Mangoris had his House Knights and retainers with him. They number 37 men altogether and Kitredge and Bludwen haven't yet figured out for certain what they are doing here.

OOC points of clarification:

1. The people in the coach are currently under protection of the Kennydyr Silverbow...but we don't yet know their identity?

2. Our party has not yet revealed itself to any of search parties, correct?

3. Are the Knights coordinated in the efforts, or does it appear they are each operating independently?

4. Do any of the Knights have an established base camp, or are they all on the move?

5. Has our party made contact with the woodsmen yet?

6. Alex is now traveling incognito as a black knight?

OOC Clarification Answers:

1. The people in the coach are currently under protection of the Kennydyr Silverbow...but we don't yet know their identity?
A. Kennydyr is watching them, he has not yet made contact with them. The people in the coach are not even aware the gauls are watching them. Kennydyr and his folk don't feel comfortable approaching strange normans, particularly norman lords.

2. Our party has not yet revealed itself to any of search parties, correct?
A. Yes

3. Are the Knights coordinated in the efforts, or does it appear they are each operating independently?
A. They are each operating independently and the Knights of the Black Mace and the Red Sash do not openly oppose one another, but they aren't exchanging Christmas Gifts either.

4. Do any of the Knights have an established base camp, or are they all on the move?
A. The Knights of the Black Mace have two small Keeps in the area they are using as staging grounds. The Knights of the Red Sash are moving in large tents. Sir Mangoris has one large camp that sends out two to three scouting parties and several foraging parties everyday. Mangoris seems the most organized of the three.

5. Has our party made contact with the woodsmen yet?
A. Yes, Kittredge and two other scouts, members of the Ghostriders, stay in constant contact with Kennydyr.

6. Alex is now traveling incognito as a black knight?
A. Yes, the whole party travels without colors or insignia.

OOC: Sorry one last thing...I am not clear on whether or not the people are still in the coach. My initial understanding was that the coach was attacked and the people escaped into the woods, leaving the coach empty.

OOC:

Also confirming my party

Bedwyr + 12 men
Alex + the Ten
Knights (mine): Dandryl, Griflet, Cadros, Neville
2 scouts: Kitredge (mine), Bludwen (Bedwyr)

and is it safe to assume Alex can call on the woodsmen for some additional scouting/recon?

OOC-The coach party was attacked and escaped into the woods. Currently they are in an old barn on a deserted farm. The Gauls know that the party has several injured people and know very little about surviving in the woods.
The party numbers are correct and yes, Alexandre can call on the gauls/woodsman for aid. They often call Alexandre "The Elfspear," and seem to believe he is somehow related to the Mythic King Arthur.
