He didn't. He never does, that is the way of his kind. I would check out Mithnar's tent, the two know each other. Also, if you see that Jamie Boggett, some call her "The Red Witch," he could be talking to her or she could know his whereabouts or plans. Dori has a relieved smile on his face now that he is not the center of Gavyn's attention. The ranger can tell Dori is hoping he leaves soon.
------------------------
Pondle slightly leans back, looking like he wants to shrink away from Gavyn and this whole affair,I, I have no plans to go there. I don't, it's not safe for my kind to trade there. Besides, there is little gold in it for me and much danger. And those others you mentioned, they don't deserve mercy. Those without mercy, deserve none.

Gavyn stands up and looks around, nodding his head. "Jamie Boggett, eh? I've worked with her before. Our paths may intersect again, when I've returned from the South, perhaps." He bids Dori farewell and leaves.

---

"Well, I don't know about that Pondle. I'd say mercy is a trait, and it shouldn't depend on the other person. I know these men have their crimes, and I will make them pay on an even field, with truth guiding my arrows." He bids Pondle farewell, like Dori, decides to put off his meeting with Jamie and Olorin, and prepares himself for his journey to the southern lands.

There is no "even" to it Ranger.Pondle's voice is strained, almost coarse sounding. His fear is still there, Gavyn can see it the gnome's eyes. Only now, Gavyn sees something else as well, an earnestness of hope of something akin to vengeance, but not revenge, more like a reckoning of judgement. A steadiness comes over Pondle, not that he is relaxing, just coming to realize to fear what Gavyn is, but not necessarily Gavyn himself. They won't meet you with any kind of sense of fairness. They will use all their arts. Prepare yourself for any and all wicked cunning should you considered meeting them.
Gavyn steps out into a slow, chilly wind blowing from the sea. Small puffs of breath quickly form around him. He can see the breathe of other merchants and buyers. Osred is standing off to the side, watching small boats bob on the water. His friend is sucking on hard candy, a wistful smile playing across his face.

The ranger stood rigid as a stone column overlooking the land to the south. His gaze was fierce and determined. He slowly licked to a small wound wear chewing on his chapped lips had drawn blood. His face was covered in a short, raggedy beard. He did not like to shave while on the road and his long dark brown hair hung around his face further obscuring his identity. His shoulders were broad from years at sea. His heavy cloak hung around him. He had no weapons visible… except the bow on his back which was nearly as tall as he.

”Osred, the time has come.”

Osred says nothing in reply, simply nodding and falling in step with Gavyn taking the sandy trail down to the sea.
They feel the sharp wind coming out of the West. Osred smiles and breaths deep, like a lion getting to roar. He stops and exhales, motioning and pointing with his elbow at their ship in so natural a fashion it would be hard for anyone to tell what he was actually doing. Osred didn't need to point though, Gavyn had already seen the three Griffons, or possibly ex-Griffons now. He hadn't seen any of them since their days on the leaking ship, "The Arrow."
He remembered their names but little else. Solmund the Goth Warrior was standing over the other two looking fearfully over the rim at the ocean foaming around the boat. Gavyn remembers Solmund not being particularly bright, but full of courage. The other two sat looking glum and relatively calm. Duisilla was a sylvan elf and had some skill with magic. Not enough to have helped much taking Griffon Tower, but that was years ago. She had more than enough time to gain skill at her craft. Gavyn could tell the wind and wet hand't touched her or Solmund and Feloqui, like it had the other passengers and most of the crew. He remembered Duisilla as quiet, thoughtful, and full of an odd sense of humor. Feloqui he knew the least about. She was half-elven and a smith of all things. Gavyn remembers Nulfi speaking respectfully of her skill even back then.
All three of them looked hungry and haggard and...hunted. They had that raggedness about them of having run as fast and far as they could endure. The two women paid as close attention as they could to the others as they could without drawing attention to themselves. Solmund was paying more attention to the sea than anything else. Gavyn saw Feloqui glance his way, then look back at him, raising her hand to her forehead to shield her eyes and give him a longer look. She recgonized him and turned quickly looking across the sea, towards the west.

Gavyn's hair waved in the wind as he walked alongside Osred to the boat with his travel gear and weapons in tow. He remembered leaving Nijmegen behind with Osred as the two headed back to Zutphen on the wizard's trail. He remembered before they left, Osred had told him that Zutphen had been worse than Nijmegin, even if it didn't seem so then. Gavyn still believed otherwise - that Nijmegin was hell on Earth. The ranger wondered silently what Osred would say now, as they headed now to the hot southern lands.

He walked in grim face, old man grumpy, even though he was happy to see the familiar Griffon faces. Every Griffon Gavyn had ever met had a certain character about them, a determination and courage. When he left Nijmegin, he left behind some of the bravest Griffons he had ever known. Critias, who'd also fought to his near death against the dragon in the Blackmoors, and Taylon and Nulfi. Now he had these Griffons and he could only hope that his courage would match theirs, should they find themselves in some hellish hole again.

He let his gaze linger on the half elven woman for a moment longer, the one he knew least of the group. He knew her smith skills would come in use, but wondered how she would fare in combat. She seemed timid to the ranger, so he wondered how she would ever manage to stand against even a minor hell creature like the one Shwanenburg. He knew Solmund a little better, and had little of the same doubts.

Duisilla immediately reminds the ranger of Elberich, Razzul, and the girl Jaime he'd met in Nijmegin. He imagined Critias' skin crawling at the idea of sharing a possibly lengthy boat ride with a magic-wielder. Gavyn had come to gradually stop fearing the spellcasters he'd worked with. He couldn't help but be intrigued by the elven woman, and was eager to see what powers she could wield.

As for the boat, Gavyn throws his pack in and climbs aboard, ready to be at sea. He looks around at the crew and starts talking as he looks around inspecting the boat. "Alright so this is what were working with, eh? Shouldn't be too bad here, we've got a nice little craft and a good crew to guide us. Why do you all look like you haven't ate for days? Here we've got enough food in these packs, and enough stuff on board we can trade for more food as we get going."

"You all wouldn't have any sail experience between you, would you? Everyone know what were signed on for? Did the company hire you guys on or you all expecting me to pay you?"

As soon as Gavyn started speaking, Feloqui's cheeks burned crimson. She turned back towards him, listening without directly looking at him, her head bowed. Osred looked at Gavyn his, eyebrow cocked in a question and a bemused look on his once stern face.
Solmund and Duisilla startle, not having recgonized him or even seen him, so lost in their own thoughts. Solmund looks sheepishly at his hands, mumbling slowly while looking to Duisilla for help.
Duisilla slowly stands up, buying herself some time while straightens her dress brushes her vest before looking up at Gavyn, My lord, it is most unexpected to see you here. Please, forgive us our lack of attention, we, ah, we, Feloqui looks up from her seat, she does nto stand,We had heard the Dragon Sulhorn had killed you for slaying her brood and stealing her hoard. It is a a welcome surprise to see you well. She now stands and Gavyn can see a pinched swirl of scar tissue around her left cheek, causing her eye to droop and adding an old, yellow bruised color to her otherwise fair skin. Gavyn has seen enough to know that wound came from a hot pincer and not combat.
Osred sighs in regret as Duisilla also stands and holds out her hand, the back raised like a Lady of court,My lord, I am honestly surprised, happily so to see you, ah healthy. I must confess though, to not knowing of what you speak?

Gavyn looks up at Osred, a hint of a smile playing across his face, and his eyebrows curling up in a semi-confused look. He didn't know really what make of the humor Osred saw in all this. He figured this was the "Golden Brewer," something or another, which Osred had mentioned the night before. Otherwise, what were these Griffons doing out here for?

The ranger looks up at the three he had figured for his shipmates, holds up his hand palm facing them in a motion telling them to slow down, even though it may have been him who had been a little too quick on the draw originally. "Now, now wait a second. First of all, I am not dead, and I haven't been. And if that dragon wants to come around looking for revenge, well... anyway..."

Gavyn holds his resolve when he sees Feloqui's scar, knowing many others who had suffered the same way. This aside, he's thrown off guard a moment later when she extends her hand for him! Since when did the Griffons kiss eachother's hands? "Well, come on now!" he says, throwing his hand up at the sight of the royal gesture. "What are you all up to out here? You all are still with the Griffons, aren't you?" He peaks around Feloqui to look at Duisilla and Solmund.

Then, he looks at Osred, "This is the Olden Rower isn't it?"

Gavyn sees a hint of happy amusement in Feloqui's eyes, while Duisilla and Solmund still look surprised and uncertain. Duisilla takes her hand away, even more unsure of herself.
When he looks at Osred, he can see his friend smiling and giving him a slight, almost unnoticeable shake of the head, "No," and looking with his eyes at several weathered looking men in worn leather armor and gear sitting towards the front.Aye, tis the Olden Rower Gavyn. Of that, you are not confused. Gavyn can see Osred is trying hard not to laugh at Duisilla's and Solmund's confusion and discomfort.
Duisilla brushes her dress again and replies in a rather shaky voice,My Lord, um I mean Sgt Gavyn, I um well, with you being a lord and all now, I figured it was the proper way to greet you, my still being a maiden lady. Solmund steps forward, shielding Duisilla some to take Gavyn's wrist in his hand and shake like warriors, forearm to forearm,If the dragon comes, I be proud to stand wit ya. It's good to see you still alive. I, ahh a He lets go Gavyn's arm and looks around, not certain what next to say. Feloqui rescues him by standing and shaking Gavyn's hand in the normal manner, surprising him with hidden strength(16)in her slender form,Gavyn, our enlistments ran out, and considering the regard elves, gnomes and half-breeds now have in the North due to the Church. I decided to come home, to the Pyrenees and see family. Duisilla is doing the same and Solmund figured the sunny south was a better place to winter than the cold lands of the Rhine. Down here, Arch-Bishop Remus' holds little sway and so does that of his "Knaves of Nijmegin," proclamation. Are you up to something Sir? If so, I can't speak for the others, but I might be inclined to join up again and follow you.
