You arrive at Beacon HQ, staring at the many-floored building. It is almost devoid of windows, with only a few panes of glass glittering on the first floor. It is otherwise a massive, cube-shaped structure that cuts through three levels of Hope.
The place appears to be on high alert, with the usual Protector contingent supplemented with several Beacon operators and officers on the perimeter.

During his time as a bodyguard for the Rurkid family Marlok has seen quite a few impressive houses, businesses, and government buildings. Standing in the Beacon HQ he looks around in awe of the structure (as well as bewilderment about how the group just appeared here...).

lol I meant that Marlok's actually confused about it, that's all (unless he'd be familiar with it, i thought you said that there was a rail-system that was the most common mode of travel)

Cadre in tow, Alexei marches through the doors. To the first person who stops him, he says, "Ober-Zeichwarter Alexei Dhrozov and squad. I am here to see an Ober-Commissar. He did not give his name but we are expected."

The operator pauses for a moment, as if listening to something, then nods. "Ober-Commissar Six will meet you in briefing room D-2. Second floor, west wing, through the double doors. Protector Zaron, please escort them."
A younger Protector inclines his head to your group, then leads the way through swarms of scurrying Beacon personnel. For all but Alexai (and Sigfried, sort of), this is the first time you have seen the inside of Beacon, and the level of activity, as well as the accompanying low-level mental noise, is disconcerting.
He lets you into a sparse room with a metal desk with a single chair on either side of it. "Please wait here, Sirs."

The chairs look official-ly, and not "guests sit here to talk to the vuy behind the desk, right? ======================
With equal measures of subconsiois habit born of years as a bodyguard, and a warynes born of the fights against the "magic elves" Marlok gives a quick but thorough look around the room, and--figuring i don't fond anything exceptionally disconcerting--adopts an arms-crossed ready-stance on the side of the room that will allow him to see (and if necessary, neutralize) any person opening the door before they enter the room.

[Back] [I don't get email, I have to check it daily]
Lepus will start, raising his arm or a leg to move, then stop suddenly, unsure exactly what he can do safely in this area. He'll look to the rest of the group, then sheepishly look at his feet.

The door opens again, and in walks a beautifully crafted suit of ornate, scroll-adorned parade armor. The somewhat hollow clank of its walk suggests it is, indeed, empty.
It moves to the chair on the far side of the table, sitting easily, steepling its fingers. The faceplate does not move as a metallic voice emerges from somewhere within the armor.
"So, what do you all have to say concerning this afternoon's... events? We would like to hear it from your perspective."

Alexei steps forward and begins reciting his briefing as before. "Sir, after being debriefed following the events of last night into this morning, the details of which you can find on Major Gavrielich's des... the details of which I would be pleased to go into if you wish, I dismissed my squad to obtain provisions. Following a brief meeting with my new recruit Marlok here, the building became the target of hostile arcane activity. I attempted to banish the creature, which resembled an elf superficially, but was unable to do so. We left to retrieve the rest of the squadron, intent on returning to excise the assailant from the barracks.
"Specialists Matsenko and Lepus, and Protector al-Arkasa will be better able to fill you in on the events at the cantina, Upon my arrival, most of the patrons were dead and an elf of the same type was being restrained. I was able to determine that it was performing some acrane ritual linked to fear, and was able to kill it effectively after calming the room without further loss of civilian life.
"Nearby was another canteen, and upon entering, discovered Officer Krasnaia. Another elf-type creature seemed to be taking control of civilains. There was no way to excise the creature without killing the civilians.
"Upon returning to barracks, the building was still animated, but General Serebryannikov quickly resolved this and ordered us executed. Your avatar appeared shortly thereafter, and I left a token explaining to the execution squad that we were ordered here, should they be unable to find us. Sir."

Thu suit nods, the helmet bobbing. "Just as I thought. Your fate was left in the hands of Beacon, being primarily our operatives. Control of your squad was relegated to me, as your former commander was deemed... unfit. I have decided that your experience and skill actually warrants praise, despite the General's insistence in the field. He has abdicated all responsibility, and I quote, 'for those smelly lumps of teat dragging beneath the belly of our great State.' Ahem. As the ranking officer that deterred and played a large part in defeating an invasion, you are being promoted. Congratulations, Ober-Controller Dhrozov." The helmet turns its scrolling towards the rest of the team.
"As for the rest of you, commendations are being added to your files. Operative Lepus, Zalmeister Krasnaia, you have both been placed 'on loan' from your respective chains of command. You will be serving under me until the completion of Operation Wounded Bear. Does anyone have any questions?"

"Yes. The... what did you call them? I liked the term. Ah, right, 'ur-elves'. These things teleported themselves to our city, bypassing our arcane defenses, utilizing some kind of powerful magics we do not, as of yet, comprehend. For some reason, they did not predict the flux that affects all arcane energies here, and they were all trapped, along with any present at their target destinations, in the shadow of Hope you found yourselves in. Invasion, thwarted."

Alexei salutes smartly. "Sir. Could there be some significance to the locations they chose to invade? I wish to request access to Bastion's files regarding these locations to determine if there is anything we may predict about their intent."
