Perfect!
Ditch's whiney call for help and the wild gyrations of the only part of his body that can move, his head. Does attract the attention of the Deva and the Elf. Thinking that a small child was in danger, they rush to the scene from opposite directions.
Both Kelzanarr and Aelonn arrive at the poles simultaneously (Kel, you were closer, but had to climb down the cliff to get here) Kel, your conversation with Ditch is interrupted and you are taken a back to see an elf approach you at a running pace.
Okay. enough of my narrative on this scene and setup. I think I'm ready for the PCs to take over and start playing!
BTW. the drums stopped when the dragon appeared on the horizon
The shadow makes another pass overhead and seems to take longer to pass.

Pitch can't help but wonder what has happened to TukTux, as he doesn't see him tied to a pole. It was down right embarrassing that the one time he was picked for patrol, they were ambushed before they could even get out of the clan's tunnels. He wondered how far the intruders had made it into their territory. Probably not far, he mused, given that here we are outside, tied to these poles and only our patrol's stuff is here. Despite the current situation, he's fairly calm because he can hear the drumming of his clan's war party, no doubt scouring the mountain trails looking for the patrol and the evil-doers that bush-whacked them.
He looks around at the bones and dried blood and wonders what fate might befall him and his clan-mates. No sooner does the thought cross his mind then a shadow falls over the scene. He looks up to see the silhouette of none other than his God!!!
"Yay!," he shouts out, "We be save!"
He's startled by the sudden outburst of his long-time friend, Ditch. "Dragon kibble? Hookface come save us, no eat us!"
"Aiiieeee!", he shouts out as he is startled again by the dark-skinned being shouting things in a strange dialect about the might of Tempus (whoever that might be) and his pale-skinned companion with the pointy ears.
"Hookface!", he shouts up to the shadow above. "Hurry, they kill us!"

Aelonn has never seen anything like the diminuitive, scaly beings (or snacks?) skewered like hors d'oeuvres before him. "Don't know about him," (nods head at Tempus), "but I ain't here to kill nobody. Least no one tied to a pole like a pig for roastin'. You boys need some help, or should we just leave ya to your Hookfriend up there?" Aelonn unslings and strings his bow. (to Tempus)"You reckon we'll have to fight that thing?" (nods skyward)

Kelzanarr takes all this in. He thinks to himself:
Shall I need to fight the small dragon-men? It seems not.
Shall I have to fight the elf? Doubtful, he seems as puzzled as I.
Kelzenarr hangs his axe on his back and turns to the elf. "Tempus only knows if we must fight the dragon. I, his humble servant Kelzanarr, know not. But I see no reason to keep these small creatures tied." He moves to the kobold and, irregardless of their reaction, starts to untie them.

"Fair enough, friend.
Besides, the big fella and I should be able to handle these little guys if they get rowdy. Assumin' he ends up on my side, that is.
Aelonn draws a dagger and moves to the farthest pole from the deva and begin slicing through the bonds of the helpless kobolds.

His shining moment of brilliance past, Ditch is no longer sure of anything. He looks at Pitch as the two strangers begin untying them. Softskins helping, Hookface circling like a cave spitter, and not a rat in sight to confirm his theory that the rodents are behind all of this. "Me Ditch. That Pitch, and those guys dumb. We on patrol. What... What going on?" The little naked kobold with a garland of seasoning spices around his neck scratches his head as he looks up at his god, quite puzzled.

It is Ditch's turn to look suspicious. "Be long things? Berong... now you making up words, confuse kobolds. Ditch just not want get eaten by... by anyone!" He harumphs on the last, stomping his foot.

Kelzanarr blinks once. He then says, in an annoyed tone:
"Understand this, kobold.
First, I do not want to eat you.
Second, I am not making up words.
Third, I shall say my question differently. Where are your weapons? Your armor? You need to get them, put on your armor and get your weapons ready. NOW."

"Is that yer stuff in the pile over there?" (motions to the pile of equipment)

As Kel and Aelonn start to free the captive kobolds, a group of bigger kolbolds emerges from hidding among some rocky outcroppings east of the alcove. One of them, Pitch and Ditch recognize as TukTux. He motions the other 4 larger warrior kobolds forward yelling something in draconic that you don't catch all of it because of all the commotion. "Stop...Stupid.... Ruin it all...will be mad... Kill them.. (of course if you don't know draconic language, then you just see him flayling about yelling at you.)
The four warriors make it about 1/2 way in their charge when the shadow in the sky lands with a thump and a cloud of dust. It squishes two of the warriors outright under its large clawed feet and knocks the other two to the ground. One of the prone kobold's legs are bent into a funny shape, bones obviously broken. The other is barely able to rise back to his feet, only to have the dragons massive red maw bites him in half. It swallows the top half and leaves the legs standing torsoless in a pool of its own blood.
As the dragon stands his ground, enjoying his first morsel, he contemplates what/who he will enjoy next.
The answer to the question of whether the staked kobolds were friend or food should now be very apparent.
Initiative and Arcana/Nature rolls if you have it.

Jessica is starting to get worried. As she comforts Kat and answers any questions that are asked of her, her mind is now rolling into action. How could Randal and the others be snatched from their beds without anyone noticing? The kidnappers must have been very quiet. Or perhaps the children left on their own? But why do something like that? She starts doing investigations of her own. Examining closely each of the children's beds for any clues or anything that might seem out of place.
And there was something that she could do that to her knowledge no one in the orphanage could not. Before she does her investigating she closes her eyes and concentrates on her surroundings, trying to sense any magic within the orphanage and specifically in the bedchambers. Teleportation might explain how the children were kidnapped without no one noticing.
OOC: What is the overall layout of the orphanage? Where are the nearest exits and possible escape routes for kidnappers without being noticed? Secure Rolls: Arcana Check(Sense Magic) 1d20(8)+10 = 18 Perception Check 1d20(12)+9 = 21

The confusion Pitch is feeling shows very obviously on his face as events unfold around him. No matter who is on whose side however, one thing is clear; he does not want to be eaten by Hookface, god or not. As the dragon begins his meal, Pitch tumbles towards the pile of equipment and gathers everything of his he can find.
"We run now?", he asks of no one in particular.

Jessica There's no residual imprint of magic being used.
The town guard has asked you about the missing children but on the night they were 'taken' no one saw or heard anything. Although one of the young boys remembered having a nightmare about an evil gnome with crooked teath and tattered cloak trying to snatch his breath. The boy's name is Andro, an 8 year old human.
The orphanage has good locks on a front and back door. Gretchyn insists that she always locks the doors before she retires for the night.
The orphanage rests on the corner of Lantern Street and Lava Avenue. Its charcoal colored stones are held together with mold encrusted mortar. The windows on both stories are tightly shuttered (against robbers or escaping kids), but a few slivers of light manage to escape from within. Lanterns hang on either side of the oaken front door. On the door is a green copper knocker shaped like a smiling gargoyle's visage. Its notrils pierced by a copper ring.
The ground floor of the orphanage is dimly lit and contains a main hall (with a starcase leading to the second floor), a kitchen with stairs leading down to a cellar pantry, a dining hall, a playroom for the cdhildren, a schoolroom, a small bathroom, and staff quarters.
The second floor is divided into three rooms: two large bedrooms filled with cots and a spacious bathroom.
You do notice that Patch's body odor is more excesive than normal for a half-orc. It not that much hotter, but he is prespiring a bit more than usual.
Oh and one more thing. You find out that the children are not the only ones that have gone missing over the last month. But these disappearances were the youngest.. and now it's got the whole town on edge.
