Party of 4
You are awaken by the sounds of heavily ladden wagons and pack animals starting their journey down the volcano. A glow of orange is barely peeks through the clouds that have gathered around the volcane's slope. Its going to be an overcast day. It's still too dark to see the caravans assembling on the valley floor below.

Rhogar and his companion have already left and entered into Cauldron's gates.

Jessica
Your day starts a little later as the sun is fully risen in the east. The young priest of Amaunator has joined the children and staff for breakfast. Afterwards, he makes one last prayer and pats Kat on the head in preparation for his walk back to the temple.

Kelzanarr stands from his reclining position, looking no less serious than he did the day before.

"Lo, the day breaks for us. Shall we enter the city?"

Ditch squints and blinks in the bright sunlight. He's never actually seen anything this bright before, so this is particularly interesting. Of course, he has a Blood Pact to fulfill, so as soon as the two tallfolk begin talking, he leaps from his slumber (some ten minutes later) in total agreeance to enter the city. He's never seen one of those, either, so that should be neato, too.

"I reckon the first thing we oughta do is get you guys 'registered' so we c'n take this rope offa ya."

"After that, well, a friend tole me 'bout an outpost I should look fer, so I guess I'll see if I c'n find out where that is."

"Kel, you said you were lookin' fer a friend too, right? Do you know where she lives?"

Jessica gets up and even though the priest is there, she makes a head count herself to make sure everyone else is still present. She is worried about her friend and shows it. The girl thinks that teleportation or a very stealthy kidnapper is responsible. But then, as she is preparing both Burning Hands and Sleep while she peruses her spellbook, she has a thought.

OOC: What is the arrangements of the beds? Are the beds of the kidnapped children following a specific pattern in a manner of speaking. Are they arranged in a particular area of the bedroom where the children are sleeping? How close is each to the entrance and any nearby windows?

Kelzanarr blinks. "Ah. Um. Ah. She is not a friend. Well, not yet. Her name is Jessica Darkwood. The great lord Tempus wants me to find her. I, ah, do not know quite where to find her as yet, but thought we could look for her."

Ditch dances around a bit before getting tangled in the line. He unwinds, eyeing Pitch as the potential cause of the tangle, before realizing that they are, indeed, going into the city.

His eyes go wide at everything as they begin to walk. The scale is beyond what he could have imagined. Aelonn has to keep an eye peeled, as the little kobold keeps trying to pick things up and look at them. Things that belong to vendors.

QKeldizan, this girl, she maybe be registrated like Ditch and Pitch gonna be?"

"Good thinkin' Ditch. If they register all the slaves comin' thru town, they might have a record of where she is, if she's a slave too."

Jessica:

Open rooms. Cots line both sides of the long end of the hall. Two doors open to a main hallway that seperates the girl and boy rooms. At the foot of each bed is a chest. Each child has two sets of play clothes and one set of 'interview' clothes. It also keeps whatever personal trinkets they want to keep. The headmistress frowns upon to many personnal items. Jessica is an exception and has a few others. On the short ends of the room are shelves and storage for common toys and bedding and whatnot.

At the end of the hallway are the common bath stalls and wash rooms.

No other kids have disappeared.

Windows have shutters that don't open all the way. There's slats that let the air through than can be openned and closed, but there is a limit to how much they can open (not enough for a kid to escape)

They would have to be taken down the stairs to get out the front or back doors.

Rufus says his goodbyes to all and leaves.

A couple hours later, you notice he forgot his holy symbol at the kitchen table where you were having breakfast.

Da Boyz

You follow the directions that Andre gave you and you make it to the Ministry with no problems. People around the gate were just starting their day and the normal 'rush hour' traffic at the gates slowed you down a little, but once inside everythibng is less hectic.

You have to wait a little bit as Bureaucrats of Ministry of Labor and Works like to sleep in a little. There's no line, so your first when the doors open.

Fast fowarding

They have no problem with Pitch or Ditch. They look healthy enough and disease free. It'll cost you 8 GP to register both of them and there's a 20 GP 'Bond' in case they cause any damamge or you need to make restitution for any trouble they cause.

Once you fork over the coins they give Pitch and Ditch a red ear tag with a number on it. (it's basically 'stappled' on) "Maker sure it's visisble at all times while inside the gates. You are free to remove their bindings."

When asked about a Jessica Darkwood, they have no record of any registered slave or slave owner with that name.

When asked about the Striders, he's heard talk about a group named the Striders, but he's never met one.

"Hey guys, I know we just met up an' all, but I been thinkin' and like Kel said, sometimes yer paths just come together at the right time."

Aelonn pulls out a handful of coins.

"Should we just put our money together fer now 'n' pay expenses outa that? Between us we oughta be able to pay the fees fer Pitch & Ditch and maybe get a room and meal at one of the inns. We can divvy up whatever's left when we part ways."

Kelzanarr nods. He pulls out a rather full purse and hands it to Aelonn. "We should go to a tavern."

He approaches the functionaries at the MInister's office. "Where would we go for a meal? Somewhere where our...kobolds would not be disturbing to our fellow patrons."

After preparing her spells and finishing her spellbook Jessica does some more investigating. First of all she checks both the boys and girls dormitories for any hidden trapdoors. Highly unlikely but still she had cover all the bases so to speak. She also checks the windows for tampering.

Once done she goes outside and does a perimeter assessment of the orphanage. She is looking for places that maybe someone could have climbed to the windows of the dormitories. She is also comparing the outside structure of the building to the inside, seeing as best she can if there might be any hidden rooms in the orphanage and where they might likely be. Also she is searching for clues to her friends disappearance.

Ditch pulls out a mess of around 40 gold coins, of various denominations and currencies. He hands them one at a time to Aelonn as he checks all of the extra pouches he has sewn into his armor.

Apparently he's pretty handy with a needle and thread.

Jessica,

All appears normal. No signs of struggle, (inside or out). Hidden trap doors would have been found by curious children and sealed shut years ago. The orphanage is a mini fortress designed to keep children safe from leaving and from being snatched... How they dissapeared is still a mystery.

Gretchyn runs out of the door of the orphanage and sees you pacing the dimensions of the building. Being one of the elder children in the group, she figures it's safe enough in the daylight to entrusts you with Rufus' holy symbol and the errand to return it. "Oh my, be a dear little Jessica. Please take this to the Temple of Amaunator and return it to father Laro."

The Bureaucrat responds to Kel.

"Folks at the Slippery Eel wouldn't bat an eye out on them kind and it may appeal to you adventureing folks more.. But if you're looking for better company and better food, they'll probably let you in at the Morkoth, Now that they're tagged, .. Stay away from the snooty folks at the Coy Nixie... they got 'standards' you see."
