(OOC: Thievery won't help you look around unless you're going to try and pick a lock on one of the chests, looking for traps, or palm one of the trinkets lying about without anyone seeing you.
Luckily Diplomacy is opposed. and your 15 beats his 10. Dice roller hates me too!)
"You have an honest face.. I don't care anymore.. I'm a dead man now... I... I didn't have anything to do with the disappearances.. they made me do it. They took my Rat..and that ... That Thing... It watched me day and night..Hiding.. I never knew if they were there or not... threatening me... drugging me....I'm ruined... they'll blame me..."
Keygan is on the verge of a break down. You figure you have a small window to get information out of him before he goes into mental gridlock. Ask your questions in your priority order and he'll answer. You can just list the questions and don't necessarily have to RP it. Secure Rolls: Keegan's Will power 1d20(5)+5 = 10

Who's they? What did they make you do? Why? What do you mean your Rat? What can we do to help you out of this trouble? (if not answered by the previous questions) What do you know about the disappearances? What is on the other side of the hole in the wall? What was the corpse? Is there anything else we should know? (Cheating, I know, and understandable if you don't allow it)

Warryn and Catra: did you follow Keygan and Chad or are you snooping somewhere else? There's unsupervised locked chests, there's locations unseen yet upstairs, or the tunnel?
let me know.
Oh and by the way. Catra, I forgot your were a halfling so you would have needed to grab and stand on a table, chair or chest to see all of what you seen. That would have taken some time. If you follow Keygan and Chad, you would have missed the start of Keygan's melt down tirade, but you would arrive in time to hear Chad start his interrogation. You can add your questions, to the bottom of Chad's list, but he may not get to them.
Warryn, you were just looking at the DB (Dead Body), so you can follow without delay.

Warryn listens to Keygan's confession and to a bit of Chad's questioning. Then, thanks to his racing mind and general poor impulse control, he moves into the tunnel. As he does so, he draws his rapier.
"Tellisari," he whispers while his left hand gestures over the blade. His rapier glows with arcane light.
Doing his best to stay alert for traps or clues, he advances. Secure Rolls: Perception 1d20(19)+4 = 23

1. Who's they? He doesn't know. They showed up before the kidnappings started and been around ever since.
They are "Tall ones" (like the dead one in the other room and "Small ones" The tall ones resembel naked hairless, genderless humans with pupilless eyes and gray skin that changes color to match their surroundings. The Short ones are sinister creatures with pallid skin, large noses, and soft black hooves for feet. The wear black cloaks that help them blend into the shadows.
Secure Rolls: Kegans Endurance/Will power 10d20{(10)(14)(3)(4)(7)(3)(15)(16)(4)(12)} = 88 Kegans Endurance/Will power 2 10d20{(7)(10)(17)(12)(4)(18)(1)(1)(2)(12)} = 84

2. What did they make you do? Why? Keygan gave them three different sized skelleton keys that can open most of the town's locks. They also took his rat familiar, Starbrow. Keygan has an empathic link, he can sense both the rat's hunger and fright.
Keygan is an apprentice illusionist He fears for his rat's life as well as his own. They threaten him daily, make him close and leave his shop for lunch/errands everyday, and drug him to sleep every night.
He didn't know why they wanted the keys until after he put 2 and 2 together and the abductions happened.
3. What do you mean your Rat? (freebie) His familiar.

4. What can we do to help you out of this trouble? Kill me. Just Kill me now.
5. What do you know about the disappearances? Nothing, they were all former customers.
6. What is on the other side of the hole in the wall? and Where does the tunnel behind the portrait lead?
"Jzadirune".. Mumbles something about a going there as a child. He forgot about it all these years since. "Papa took me"
He doesn't give up much more in his rambling.
7. What was the corpse? A "tall one"
8.Is there anything else we should know? (OOC: Hah. good one!) He mumbles more about something he calls "..the vanishing" a plague that killed all the gnomes."

Warryn has no patience for the babbling Gnome and takes off around the time Keygan says to "just kill Me"
He heads back to the tunnel.
Lighting up his sword with arcane energy (good idea since it was dark), he enters. The tunnel is 2ft wide, so you'll have to side step through.
Using passive perception or do you want to roll? Secure Rolls: random 1d6(2)+2 = 4

[OOC I included a perception roll in my earlier post. But here are a couple more in case they're needed.]
Warryn continues to advance down the tunnel. Fortunately for a man less than four feet tall, a two foot wide tunnel isn't much of a hardship. Secure Rolls: Perception 1d20(7)+4 = 11 Perception 1d20(18)+4 = 22 Perception 1d20(1)+4 = 5

Warryn:
You get to the end of the tunnel (about 10 ft long) and are in another 10x10 ft room. To your right is a circular door about 4ft in diameter. It appears to be open. To the back of you is a switch plate with a lever. The lever is in the down position. There are black scorch marks that radiate from the plate against that wall, floor, and ceiling and against the opposite wall. The marks looks like branches on a tree radiating in all directions.

Chad peers at Catra somberly, his eyes wet and thoughtful.
He looks back at the distraught gnome. "Keygan...I don't like killing, and I especially don't like killing friends. I want you to go somewhere that they don't have a skeleton key for, and stay there. We'll get Starbrow back, and we'll do our best to put all this right."

Catra nods at Chad. "He's right, Keygan. You should go stay somewhere safe. We're going to find Starbrow before they can hurt him, and rescue the kids. You don't need to wait here."
She looks at Chad. "Does the name Jzadirune mean anything to you?"

Chad stands up and signals for Catra to follow him into the other room. When they're alone, he tells her, in hushed tones, "Jzadirune was a gnomish city that supposedly existed here, below Cauldron. About 80 years ago most of the gnomes disappeared, and the entrances to the city were closed off."
He pauses, and seems to suffer a minor internal conflict before continuing. "There was a disease...it made everyone vanish, like, literally vanish. Poof. Well, if the stories are true. That's what I think is causing the townsfolk to go missing...they're not exactly being abducted, they're vanishing."
Chad looks at the tunnel entrance. "Everyone I've talked to thought the entrances to Jzadirune were long gone and forgotten...looks like we found one." Secure Rolls: To tell or not to tell 1d100(48) = 48

"But why would the..." she gestures for the right word, then gives up the search with a shrug, "whatevers need need the keys if people were vanishing? I'd say it was the other way around and we may have found the source of the old disease." She gestures at the tunnel entrance. "Did you want to go first?"

"Yes, yes.. I suppose you're right..I'll do as you suggest." You leave Keygan to his own devices. Whether he follows your suggestion only time will tell.
Going into the next room: As you look down the tunnel, you already see Warryn on the other end with his sword lit up like a sunrod. He's already looking around. for a Catra, it's an easy fit. For Chad, you'll have to squeeze through.

Warryn the door sort of looks like this when closed/partially open. : So for now, ignore the door position and just note the door frame.
In the door frame on the right hand side (the dot) is a stone square sticking out. it has a rune on it (picture below) that you immediatrely notice as the character "J" in Gnome.

"You're probably right," Chad sighs. "I don't know which I like less...diseases that make you disappear, or strange creatures that do the same."
Chad stretches his shoulders, not knowing when he'll again have the room. Avandra curse short people. Chad pats the slender wooden bow under his shirt, and, with a sideways glance at Catra, starts down the tunnel.

Chad kneels to inspect the scorch marks.[Assuming a 17 on Arcana is good enough to know the burn marks are from lightning; if not, disregard this] "Lightning...maybe a trap. Either way, it's set off now. All the same, I think we should be on our toes."
Chad glances around the room idly[Perception: 8], then slides his back to the wall to stand next to Warryn. "See anything? Secure Rolls: Arcana (to identify scorch marks) 1d20(10)+7 = 17 Perception 1d20(3)+5 = 8
