I was recently looking through the players handbook, when I suddenly realised that Sorcerers have numerous advatages over Wizards, such as simple weapon proficiency, more spells and spontaneous casting. Is anyone here playing a wizard or sorcerer? What made you choose that class over the other?

Cappucina is playing a sorcerer in my Reluctant Heroes game. But I use a spell point system for sorcerers and only sorcerers. This is done to further seperate them as a different class from Wizards and to tie in the theme that sorcerers have innate arcane powers.
In my world Wizards learn more magic and are more powerful than sorcerers in a straight arcane duel, but Sorcerers are more flexible. The way I would look at it as a player is that at low level in particular a wizard needs more help to survive and advance to where they are extremeley powerful. Sorcerers are better characters for small parties or solo campaigns.
Good Topic for discussion.

Sorcerers' power is inversely proportional to their level, while Wizards' are directly. When you get up higher, Wizards can learn any spell, and even create new ones. Sorcerers are stuck with whatever they pick.
Generally, though, they're good at two different things. Wizards are good "spell-monkeys," in that they can have a spell for anything. Sorcerers, on the other hand, are better "blasters," because they get more spells per day and can select the appropriate damage spell at the appropriate time.
