I am unable to figure out how mapping works.

1) How do I form my tile libraries into combat maps?

2) how do I locate premade tile libraries that other players are willing to share?

In order to use the combat mapper, you need to create a "Map" topic within a game you GM (or a game you have edit permissions for). Do it the same way you would create any other topic, except choose "Map" instead of "IC Thread", "Document", or whatever.

Once you are in your map topic, you can adjust the size and background color of the map to any you wish. Then you can select a tile library from the drop-down list to use tiles from that library. You can use multiple tiles from multiple libraries in the same map.

There are two drop-down lists, one for your personal libraries (which you edit from your User Settings page) and one for public libraries posted by other players. When you pick a library, the tiles for that library will appear. To build your map, click on the tile you wish to use, and then click on the map grid where you wish to "stamp" that tile. If you mess up, you can click again in the same grid square to delete the tile you stamped. Only draw the background of your map now. Don't add characters and monsters to the map yet.

Once the background of your map is finished, go to your in-character thread (game thread) where you want to use the map. Scroll to the bottom, underneath where you would make a new post, and click on the "Combat Map" tab. Enter the name of the map topic you created and then click to attach the map.

Your map is now attached to the game thread. You can now click on a map square to add a character or monster to the map. You will be able to pick a tile image for the character, and enter a short description (such as pertinent game stats). You can move an existing character on the map by clicking on it and then clicking on an empty grid square. When you add a character to the map, it also adds that character to the Character Tracker, allowing you to keep track of the character and quickly add them to new maps as the need arises.

OOC: I think I'll add this to the FAQs as well, let me know if you have any questions.    Like this post

I'm having troubles with the map maker feature

I can create a map and stamp tiles
but when I hit the Update Map or hit the return
all of the stamped tiles are removed and I'm left with a blank map again

Could it possibly be firewall interference?

I guess I'll use the map tag until then...

It sounds like your browser isn't allowing the AJAX calls required. What browser are you using?    Like this post

Are you using your computer from home? or from a school/work network? Sometimes the administrator of a network can block this stuff. If that is the case, then unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it except move to a new computer.    Like this post

2) Look Up on GOOGLE, how to unblock javascript in specified browser.

Likely you did not go for custom set up and the default is Do Not Display Mode.

Had my bro who has a master's in this stuff look at the problem and gave me that answer.

cooneypete: If you web browser is pointing to http://roleplaymarket.com it won't save any changes you make to a map. Try pointing your browser to http://www.roleplaymarket.com (with the www.) and it should work fine. If that doesn't fix the problem then let me know.

Where's the FAQ on inserting multi-square-sized tiles?

Icedaemon: You would place them just like any other tile, with the exception being the upper-righthand corner of the tile will be placed where you click and the tile over-writes anything that already exists in the area that it will cover.

If that's not what is happening, then there may be an issue with how the multi-square tile was uploaded. If that's the case, then the tile has to be deleted from the library and then re-uploaded with the correct size selected.

Does that help, or is there a different occurance that is bedeviling you?
