So if you haven't heard already, DC comics has announced that in Issue 2 of the Earth 2 release, the Green Lantern will be gay - not the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, but the original, Alan Scott.
I don't have problem with this. A little diversity in the DC universe is a good thing. Even if I did have a problem, it's a fairly minor (albeit historically significant) character in an alternate earth that only die-hard comics fans care about.
Then I got to thinking. Didn't the original Green Lantern's powers fail to work on something other than the color yellow; something commonly found in a lumber yard.
Sigh.... I can hear the whispers in the Hall of Justice now.
Ok, hopefully they have changed that certain... awkward peculiarity for the new writeup. Even so, maybe they could have chosen someone else to be DC's first gay superhero. Hawkman would have been a good choice.

Robin comes to mind for me.
In fact, weren't all of them gay, in a Freudian sense? At least that's how Marvel rolled, not sure about DC (though the DC heroes did enjoy wearing their underwear outside their tights - probably a signal to other superheroes that they're "open for business", if you know what I mean). Supposedly X-Men is about homosexuals searching for acceptance in a hostile mainstream society. And every Depeche Mode song seems to be about that. Were there any DC comics of that nature?
