Morte Nera
The modern cataclysm of the world. Word travels slowly, but surely as the death count to The Plague and Starvation is now thought to be in the millions.
The Holy Father, Lotan Arch-Bishop of Avignon has declared that the death, plague, war and starvation of the World is due to indivual persones wickedness, and that people should flail themselves daily to pay for their mis-deeds through life.
Rise of the Kingdom Lorraine
With the movement to Kingdom started by Lord Leafhelm well underway the people are uniting. This idea of a righteous Kingdom has been galvanized with the populace, primarily due to the nations relative resistance to The Plague and the supply of food that is the envy of other Western Kingdoms. Order is slow to come to many areas of Lux, but it is improving. Sigmae and Renee now command a land area equal to The Kingdom of Burgundia. This new Kingdom includes:
The Grand Duchy of Lux: Grand Duke Renee DArcy
Count Palatinate:Arch-Bishop Ulrich Jaenbaerht
The Earldom of Wolvega: Earl Leafhelm
Wilderness of the Ardennes: Wildgraf Reinhard
Gunderland: Thane Albrecht
Perhaps most impressive of additions to the new Kingdom of Lorraine is The County Palitinate. The County is headed by Arch-Bishop Ulrich Jaenbaerht, Count Palatine. He has in the last decade introduced the Order of Knights Hospitalliers at the counties capitol in Trier. Where the Church of the West has St. Cuthberts College at Trier. While this college and the Hospitalliers were once headquartered at Heidelburg in Germania it is now in Trier.
Lux is thought to be the only country left untouched by Plague and Famine.
War Brewing
King Phillipe of Burgundia is claiming Gunderland, though the land and people have pledge loyalty to Lux.
Rumors abound of Lux gathering a great army to march on Phillipe and secure the Gunderland.

He is wanted on charges of murder, illegal magic use, threat to poison the citizens of Liege, threat to Inquisitor Konrad von Marburg, and is considered a threat to the Church of the West.
Anyone who aids him will also be considered an outlaw. Any sightings of him shall be reported immediately to any official of the Church of the West.
In addition, Queen Sigmae has shown reckless leadership in condoning such a crimminal and is hereby excomunicated from the church. It is illegal for any merchant or state, that bears faith to the Church of the West, to have dealings with the Charlatan Queen.
Lastly, all Teutonic Knights are considered outlaws and are to be hunted down and burned at the stake for their practice of witchcraft with Luther von Bora.

News and Rumors July 1284
1. There are reports of a Black Dragon in the heathlands of Drenthe. This area is known as The Blackmoors. The report is considered credible as it comes from Eigan Tollbeck, a notable Highland Ranger. It is rumored that the famous Highland Cattle thief Brynwith Morgan is partially responsible. It seems Brynwith found the dragons lair and snuch in looting his hoard. Enraged by the intrusion the dragon retaliated by destroying the dairy town of Meppel.
The Landgravate of Drenthe is also our feature Lordship of the week. In the future I hope to post one Lordship as a feature Lordship for the players to become more familiar with the game world.
Drenthe Drenthe is a Landgraviate of the Nederlands, located in the north-east. The capital city is Assen. It is bordered by Overijssel to the south, Friesland to the west, Groningen to the north, and Lower Saxony to the east.
History Drenthe, unlike many other parts of the Nederlands has always been a sparsely populated rural area, other parts of the Nederlands didn’t really see this “territory” as a part that belonged to the rest of the Nederlands but more like “wasteland”. This “wasteland”, however, has been populated by people since prehistory, albeit by just a handful. Most tangible evidence of this are the dolmens (hunebedden) built in antiquity. Drenthe was first mentioned in a document from the year 820, it was called Pago Treanth (district Drenthe). In archives from “Het Drents Archief” from 1024 to 1025 the “county Drenthe” is mentioned. Drenthe has long been subject to the Bishops of the Holy See of Utrecht.
Geography Besides the capital Assen, Emmen, Meppel and Hoogeveen are the trade centres of the province. Drenthe, consisting mostly of heathland, has no significant rivers or lakes. Economy Agriculture is the major industry of Drenthe.
Heraldry
A black tower on a white field with a red band above and below the tower.
Assen History The history of the capital of Drenthe actually starts in 1258, when there had to be found a new location for the monastery Maria in Campis, which was originally built near Coevorden. It stood there in a poor peat area, which also happend to flood from time to time. A better and especially dryer spot for the Cistercienzer monastery was found in the form of Witten, on a place where at the time only a few farms were localized. Around it were village communities like Deurze, Witten en Peelo. The last has a history which goes back to the times from when Dolmens were built.
Monastery The monastery was built at what now is the Brink of Assen. It is a small monastery with a population of sturdy monks. The old monastery still stands, but is deteriorating due to being abandoned and frequent flooding.
'Drents Haggle' Assen really never been an independent Lordship. Even though there was an abbey church, Assen fell ecclesiastically and administratively under Utrecht. In 915 Assen got its own preacher. In 1007 Assen administratively got itself free from the control of Utrecht when the village got to compose its own municipal authorities. A municipal authority which moreover in most cases operated in the shadow of the of Holy See of Utrecht government. The municipal authority was given the title of Mayor of Assen, and Regent of Drenthe. The first Mayor was Rolde who laid down the tradition of trading and making deals unbeknownst to the Bishop of Utrecht. He always made his deals in The Herenbol, a park like forest on the edge of Assen. These dealing earned the knickname the 'Drents Haggle'. Which means to have underhanded dealings on the fringes of the law. The mere voicing of the term is common for some one who wants to begin negotiations with an official who might be bribed or look the other way. The current Regent of Drenthe is Petrus.
Around 1200 Assen began to play an industrial role. Export slaughtery, dairy and a minor iron foundry fuels the economy.
Emmen is a town in the northeastern Nederlands on the road between Assen and Zwolle. Emmen arose from several small farming and peat-harvesting communities which have dotted the Landgravate of Drenthe. These communites are the villages of Westenesch, Noordbarge and Zuidbarge. A strong rural unity and network of agricultural trade interlink these small communities that all lie within a 4 league radius(20 miles).a There are a few historic landmarks within the town, these few include the church on the market square, where a church has been standing since the late Aquitanian Period, and the court of law building, dating from the beginning of the tentth century.

News Update Continued
2. Einlandr Roskilde, "The Blood Wolf" has attacked and taken Schwanburg Castle at the fork of the Lower Rhine, in Gelderland. The castle had been held by Sir Golfar, a Templar Knight in the service of Phillip the Younger of Brabant. Mercenaris played a pivotal role in taking Schanburg(Swan Castle).
Einlandr is the son of Prince Rugen Roskilde. His name, Einlandr means one who is a stranger in his native land. His men call him the Blood Wolf for his brutality in battle, and skill at wielding a heavy single bladed battle axe.
3. Arch-Bishop Ulrich Jaenbaerht of Trier has invaded The Palatinate. A small Landgravate south of Lorraine and North of Burgundia along the Rhine River. The Landgravate was established by Sir Eric Dibert' of Burgundia as a small independant Theocracy to train Paladins and Priests. The Landgravate has been under the control of Burgundia since Grand Duke Rene D'Arcy killed the shapechanger who had taken the throne of Burgundia and King Dibert's life.
Arch-Bishop Ulrich firmly holds Palfry Pass and has send probing attacks into the Palatinate, preparing it to be liberated. Rumor has it that that Arch-Bishop Bruno of Besancon, Burgundia is marshalling a force of Templars and Flagellants to meet and destroy Ulrich's Hospitalliers and Priests from Trier. The Holy Father in Avignon has ordered Arch-Bishop Ulrich arrested and brought to appear before him in the Holy See of Avignon. Soon it appears there will be a civil war within The Church of the West.
4. The Aquitanian Senate has confirmed the application of Thomaso as the Royal Ambassador from The Kingdom of Lorraine. They now turn to deal with the issue of the church and warrants for Queen Sigmae, and whether to have trade agreements with her.
5. Sir Alexanre Godarte has attacked Aldane with several knights and a hodge podge of archers and others. This issue is still in doubt at this time. But with the Godarte has made so far, and the loss of Schwanburg Castle other things are afoot. Rumors from Burgundia say Phillip the Bold is concerned about the leadership of his son in the north and rumors in the north say Duke Leonard of Brabant is tiring of Regent Phillip the Younger ruling what Duke Leonard considers rightfully his by birth. These rumors are unconfirmed.
6. Economic News Prices continue to be stable for the most part. Which has led to a small economic boom in the food market. This is partially due to the plague having rid the world of many hungry mouths. The standard of living has raised ever so slightly in the Western World.
However, the recent skirmishes from Hainault, through the Ardennes to Gelderland have disrupted the highly profitable Wool Trade. The Woolmongers Guilds from Aquitanian to Zeeland are hopping mad, seeing their cash cow being chased off.
7. A shipment of illegal arms being smuggled into Pont du Falx by Gellon the Horse Thief and Arturo the Assassin was captured by Lord Vlad, Lord High Constable of Flanders. Gellon and Arturo killed 9 of the guards who ambushed them, but they escaped. Lord Vlad has been overturning the Yeoman Quarter looking for other memvers of the Maquis. The Maquis is the name that the resistence to the Dragon King Hoakr has taken up. If means Defiance.

8. The new Count of Champagne, Vintronus, entering the fray. Vintronus has made a claim to the Barony of Ardsmoor, and Sir Aris Rosby has sided with him and refused to honor his oaths to Sir Morwith. Vintronus believes that Ardsmoor should be a part of Champagne and at times in the past, it has been. Frequent border skirmishes have always played a part in this wavering border. Sir Morwith's older brother was killed in such a skirmish.
Other Rumors running rampant In the Ardennes and the Baronies of Ardsmoor and Fontenot are quickly heating up and the "The Forest War," as it is being called is becoming costly to the participants.
Sir Remi Belleau, one of King Louis' most loyal supporters has died in the fighting, another supporter, Sir Loren Fane is grievously wounded and may not recover, leaving the Earldom of Trevante with only a few lords on either side.
Sir John Avesnes has rallied his entire army and called a full muster and is moving north to rendevous at Louvain with Little Phil and his gathering forces. Little Phil's plan is to cross the Meuse near Liege and split Lorraine from Wolvega by attacking between the two.
Sir Morwith, the Lord Earl, has decided to stop being patient and take the war to his enemies. He has strong and capable support from Sir William Batiste and Sir Halgon Sharp and Sir Alexandre Godart, thought dead, is still alive and becoming a thorn to Sir Rosby and the Burgundians.
The arrival of the Judicators and some more loyal followers of King Louis has evened things out for the time being, but that could quickly change with all the humanoids Udric is landing and the new Count of Champagne, Vintronus, entering the fray.
Philip the Bold supports Vintronus of Champagne, as do most of the clergy of Burgundia. King Louis considers this a threat and the opening salvo of a war with Normandy and plans to send more men into the area to preserve his claims.
There is a power struggle in Burgundia between Phillip the Bold and the Flagellant, Arch-Bishop Bruno of Besancon.
Duke Leonard has grown tired of Little Phil's regency and feels he is ready to rule on his own, free of Burgundian influence. Duke Leonard has contacted King Hoarkr and offered an allegiance with the Dragon King.
